I have my banding date 11/06/07. I've been on my pre-op diet for a few days and find the Protein drinks help as my normal dieting technique is fasting. I got some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and do like that but just picked up some Myoplex Lite with 25 grams that is already made for the office. It tastes ok but it is lumpy! Yuck!!

My question is I've told management that with my surgery on Tuesday that I would try and be back in the office on Thursday. Am I being a total optimist? Anyone out there able to return to a very sedate office position in this amount of time?

Thanks.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

In my personal experience, there was NO way I would have been able to go back to work in 2 days. I was planning on driving my MIL to the airport 2 days po and I was not able to. I have had major surgery before so I thought it would be simliar, but it wasnt'.

The thing that threw me for a loop was the muscle pain bc they stitch the port to the muscle. I went back to work on day 7 and I was still sore. I couldn't pick something up off of the floor, it was difficult to get in/out of the car, etc. and that was day 7! I work an office job, I sit at a desk all day in front of a computer and in meetings. I found this to be very hard, bc I was uncomfortable so I had to keep leaving a day long meeting to walk around a bit. I ended up working from home 3 days that week.

However, we are all different and I have heard of people who go back to work the next day. You might heal differently than I.

Good luck!

Hi kandiceb,

I have heard that some ppl can return to work a couple of days after surgery, but that was not the case for me. It was about a week after my surgery that i started feeling better. For me, i was nauseated for about 5-6 days. If you feel up to going to work on thursday that's great but i would let management know that it could be longer. You definitely don't need to over do it. Good luck and hope you have a quick recovery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
