Shrinkin' Vi's Bandiversary Blow-Out Planning Post #1: Who Wants to Come?

Recommended Posts

May is fine w/me... but first we need a final tally of who's in so I can then check on avail cabins... the sooner the better, of course... so what say we close out on Friday... ok lurkers... you have 'til then to pop out & say "yeah" or "nay" to the trip so we can then lock in location & date! After that, it's all gravy! Oops! I mean... uh... slushie crystal light!

Kat, I think you have the list of all of us who wanted to be on the "list"... who haven't we heard from who you'd've thunk we'd've heard from by now?? We could pm them or something in case they missed this thread...

(We can also get a cabin that sleeps a few more than our actual number "just in case", too.)

Oh yeah, sleeping arrangements don't matter much to me. My Mom uses a C-PAP, and Rick did prior to his heart surgery---so they don't phase me, look wise, or noise wise....when I was in ALbq. with my folks the night they drove me nutso, my Mom had a dream and tried to chew the hose to hers in 2! I laughed my butt off!

Rick says since losing the weight I don't snore anymore, BUT---he snores so loud I have no idea how he would know, and I don't sleep with anyone else, so have no real idea!!! I have to sleep on an incline, but have an inflatable wedge I take traveling.....or I can find me a recliner, and sleep there!

I just thought of another possiblity---with the date change, it may change things with the due date of Denise's DD-----if the baby is already here, she may be able to join us for a weekend! I understand not chancing missing it(birth of her grandchild), but we could always fit her in...if her grandchild has already been born by then....and that would make it even better!!!

OK, just posting rambling thoughts now. DH and I are going to dinner, celebrating in our own way---the lack of chemo!

Got horrible news today though, a child I provided daycare for for 10 years, consider him one of mine, his family is wonderful. He was killed in a stock car racing accident in Abilene this weekend. I cannot believe Ryan is gone, he was 25. Breaks my heart. His Dad beat all the emergency crews to his car, and kept trying to pull him out, now Dad is burned too. SO incredibly sad. Prayers for the Bard family please....

Michelle if my friggin computer would cooperate, or if I had a clue what was wrong I would send you the list right now, but it is not letting me copy and paste it, I have suddenly lost tool bars for going back and forth---it will not ctrl c or ctrl v---nothing. And I have to go for dinner, this is making me mad as all get out! I will work on it when I get back this evening, if I have to type it out all over I will get it to you.

Wait.... I'm not easy in that way... LOL! Ya'll know what I mean. Snore, don't snore, machine, yakker, drooler, whatever... I sleep with a snorer, and three fidgety dogs every night. Nothing fazes me...

Hey gals

Just getting in from work. That weekend in May is perfect for me too, I'm flexible and don't really care what anyone says right now. I told stepmom about it and I needed a weekend off in April and I thought she was going to have a stroke. Tough shit, I cover for everyone... figure it out... I'm giving 6 months notice

As for the place, I was looking today, I still say indoor pool and/or a hot tub.

oh wait, if i keep going like i did today, I'll take the entire hot tub, and it will overflow.

either way, count me in on whatever you decide

Haydee did he give you anything else for your tongue or tell you that you could use anything for it----(yeah, I really am gonna hook up the new keyboard!!!)

I ask because I use a little packet of stuff from the pharmacy it is over the counter it is called Amacin---you mix it in a couple of ounces of warm/hot Water, swish and spit---it has a numbing agent in it, also a peroxide base I am guessing, it is antisceptic as well. It helped more than anything with all the stitches I had in my mouth at the time---and we have used it since for many mouth issues. As I say we buy it at Walgreens, like 7 bucks for a package of 20 or more packets.

Hope you aren't hurting too bad.

Mothers Day-----doggone it! I will work around whenever! Most of you have work schedules etc. I do not. If this place has booking issues at the time we decide, we can find another---the only thing that really matters to me is that we can all get together.

And like I said earlier, with us going later, maybe Denise will be available!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
