Oh also side question... what’s the deal with carbonation with sleeve long term? I hear you shouldn’t have carbonation. I like fizzy Water and that’s not good after? Besides burping bloating etc what’s really wrong with it?

I think you'll get mixed answers to this one. Some will say it stretches out the sleeve, some say it won't. I personally quit all carbonation last summer because I was sick of buying cans and bottles of the stuff and hauling it home. My acid reflux improved after I quit, too. I think it's probably just something you either tolerate or you don't.

For me all the gas pain left once I had a bowel movement. I walked about a mile on day 4 and that got everything moving. Do what is comfortable for you and don’t over do it though. Also hot tea worked great for me also even though I had to keep reheating it lol

Hi, I didn't set up a recliner, my Doctor advised me to take it easy, rest as much as possible, sleep will be your friend. No lifting, pulling, 5lbs or more for a few weeks. Your body is healing from major surgery and it's healing from the inside, so be good to yourself, and rest, rest, rest.

It is AMAZING how different this is for all of us. I was told, by the nurse on discharge, no napping unless I really needed too, but to move as much as possible. my weight limit to lift/push/pull is 10# (doesn't like a big difference, but it is twice as much when you think about it) Reading over everyones posts, even the diets the first 30 days show a lot of variation. So I think it shows there is some leeway in here for some of us that feel we are struggling to follow exact instructions? I think if everyone just tries to do their best, even if it's not perfect, are going to do very well in the long run!

yep, this seems to be one area that there's a lot of opinions on. My weight loss clinic is of the no, never group. Saying it is one thing that will quickly open up the pouch. I too stopped all carbonation 4 months pre-surgery. Even though most was zero calories, I dropped weight immediately. I know the last time I quit ONLY carbonated drinks I lost 20#. So there's that.

I have a great team, surgeon, and dietician that work together and they have been awesome. I was given 2 folders with all the information I needed, it's my Bible, and I go to it daily. In my opinion, I knew this was a process, and it's major surgery and a life changing decision. We cannot expect for it to be a magic wand. It took years to put on the extra pounds, I know this will take work and this surgery is just a jump start. I will take it easy on my recovery, enjoy my quiet times, reflect and plan on my next step to go back to the gym. I wish you all a speedy recovery and best of luck with your future self, which will be a much smaller version, but a much more incredible version.

Sleeved on 12/19 and even after 3 days of broth and Water - no weight loss. It’s like a magic trick!

The gas pain is excruciating and swallowing is really rough. But I have my sippy cup full of mint tea ready to tackle my 64 today. Kinda makes you miss the IV!

Sleeved the same day 12/19 . Gas pain is the same for me . Swallowing is getting better. Its when it hits my stomach that is feels like it’s stuck and then bubbles and then I have a hard time burping. Ugh!

It’s CO2 gas pain, so not sure if gas meds help. I found a good combo of heating pad on my neck/shoulder and ice pack on my tummy helped a lot.

Make sure they give you the nausea patch AND the Zofran - I’ve not felt a moment of nausea which is a relief. They also ended up giving me something for esophogus spasms so if you end up in that spot there is something for you!

Just be really specific about any pain and not assume it’s part of the process because they might be able to help.

Good luck! You’ll do great.

I know! I’m just trying to keep in mind that someone was cutting us up only 2 days ago, so this really isn’t that bad! Breathing through the spasms and stuck feeling really helped me vs the tensing up. And knowing it will only last a few seconds. Hang in there.

hey buddies - good to see everyone's updates and so many doing well :) Sorry for those struggling - for those with gas pains that were just sleeved, I found day 3 to be a tough one but by day 5 i felt pretty good ..hoping the same for you.

It is really interesting to see the difference in surgeon's plans etc..I didn't expect them to vary so much. I was sleeved 12/7 had my 2 week check in yesterday - finally got off my 7-8oz of Protein Shake only per day. I moved to soft foods and there is a list I can eat. Interestingly, he doesn't give targets for Protein or Fluid amounts per day - said to stay hydrated and eat when hungry - even if it's 4, 5, 6 times per day...but only eat until satisfied, don't over eat. Eat nutrient dense foods and try for higher protein. He said if he gives targets sometimes people are trying to cram in more food/protein when they aren't hungry. Also everyone exercises different amounts etc. So that's a lot less pressure to me :)

I'm down 17lbs since surgery. for someone with horrible thyroid and parathyroid problems who never sees the scale move, it's a beautiful thing. :D

Hey everyone.... whew.... what an adventure this has been so far :) had my first post op visit today, Sooo thought I was going to move to a stage where I can have cottage cheese ( right out of the container) nope. bubble burst! BUT, I have lost 23 pounds (this includes the 10 I lost in the 3 weeks before surgery. SOOOO YAY!! celebration time! LOL sort of. I wore a pair of pants I havent been able to wear before ..sweeetttt! Doc moved me on to stage 2 which is all pureed (must be consistency of applesauce) or liquid. (I'll live). Protein Shake supplement to remain the same 30-50 grams a day. Looking forward to progressing in a positive direction with all of you :) stay strong!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
