Slutty clothes for 5 year olds...

Recommended Posts

I have a 5 yr old little girl. I am amazed when I shop for her what the styles are. Mini skirts..ripped tights...low rise bell bottoms...a lots and lots of shoes with heels in them. This is the main stream stuff. As I dont want my 5 yr old looking like a street walker...I really have to be picky and shop til I drop to find actual little girl stuff. What is the deal with these clothing designers? I almost wish I had a boy...sheesh. I miss my childhood with knee highs and goucho pants.

Hi,

I don't have any kids of my own, but I do have a 5 year old neice. I refuse to buy that crap for her.

They market it to them on all the tv shows, etc. She really loves the Cheetah Girl stuff....but what give year old should be walking around in belly shirts? Why do they have to grow up so fast?

I never understood why they have to "tart" up a five year old. It's just disgusting.

Great news is... JCP and Goody's don't sell much of the "booty" shorts/shirts for kids... Walmart on the other hand - tons of questionable items. Still drives me crazy that there are shorts/pants that have writing on the butt for an 8 yr old... What message is that sending to our kids except - HEY LOOK AT MY BUTT....

I won't let my daughter wear any of that either... not even around the house - just a waste of clothing... drives me nutty...

So I am Right there with you!!!

Amy

You are so right about the t.v. marketing it to them...Disney channel is the worst offender! What about the toys..like bratz? They are pre teen girl dolls dressed like they are in the child prostitute trade. You would think if you arent a pagent mom you wouldnt have to worry so much..but its really prevalent.

I have two daughters, 6 and 9. The only thing I can/will buy for them at Wal-Mart is sweatpants! Everything else is just too "fashionable" and I just refuse to buy into that. Luckily my girls are unswayed by it all, don't have any interest in it and neither do most of their friends. Since they're perfectly mainstream girls I have to assume that MOST girls 5-10 years old could take it or leave all that flashy stuff--it's the parents who are the target market.

I used to shop at Target but their tweeners stuff is awful now too. I'm sticking with Lands End overstocks, JC Penney, and nameless local stores carrying second-hand classics.

I totally agree !! When I shop for my 4 year old DD, it feels like I am looking at the clothes I used to buy to go to the bar in the late 80's & 90's (I was single & skinny). Other clothes look like the clothes the burn out kids used to wear !

I have had good luck with stores like Gymboree (if you hit a clearance and there is a printable 20% coupon thats good till Jan 08 online) and the Lands end dept at sears. Trying to stick with the classic stuff and stay away from the hoochie-mama things! Its not easy, but no way is she wearing a belly top and low rise jeans at 4!!

I totally disagree with today's style of girl clothes.

My daughter is 14, and we didn't have to worry about it when she was younger. Now we are having the arguements and discussions on appropriate clothes. She started high school this year and the peer pressure to fit in is fierce. Luckily she started young, wearing decent clothing.

My point is, don't give in when the girls start wanting to wear these styles. When they get older it won't be too hard to say no...

Good Luck

I worry about their development and posture when wearing heels and platform shoes. I wasn't coordinated enough as a kid! What scares me most is that we are playing into the hands of the sickos of the world. Your little one is lucky to have YOU as a mom!!!

I can only imagine. Yesterday I went shopping for a baby shower and ventured into the girl stuff. Walked by the size 4-7 and could not believe what they were making for little girls. Black, slinky, cocktail dresses! I don't care for the pageant dresses either, but there should be something in between, just sweet looking.

I love that my daughters have to wear uniforms to school. It takes alot of arguments out of the equation. They are 7 & 8. One is a tom boy so no worries there. My youngest is a pagent baby, so she is high maintance but I will not go there. NOT ALL PAGEANT moms like their kids looking like hookers...lol....here is mine... ;)

Oh Brandy,

She is lovely...

Gymboree has very tasteful clothing...fits well, nothing crazy...no tummy showing...but they are slightly expensive.

I struggle with this as well...Thankfully, my three year old has no say in what goes on her body...I like that!

School uniforms are pretty much standard in Australia. Nobody gets to actually go to school in slutty clothes. But the local high schools, the girls still manage to look like those Bratz dolls, ergh.

Which is one reason why my kids are going private and will be wearing ties, hats, blazers etc. I really strongly believe in the discipline of a school uniform - teaching kids how to present themselves in certain situations. They can "express themselves" on the weekends etc.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
