It feels like I am going backwards!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on October 3rd. I had the usual symptoms during my first week of recovery, but by the end of the first week I was feeling pretty good. Now I am on day 18 and I am feeling crappy again. My port is very bothersome. I am back to taking my pain meds. I am tired during the day, and have to nap quite a bit. So needless to say I have little energy. I am back to being bloated, and uncomfortable.

I am drinking my Water 64 oz + a day. I do get my 60 grams of Protein. I get some carbs. I am consuming about 1000 calories a day. I am walking a least an hour a day.

I just can't understand why I feel so crappy.

Poor Amy! ;) I can't really comment too much since I was banded after you were and am only just now moving from the no-energy-stage to the finally-feeling-somewhat-human-again stage. However, in the last few days I have noticed that some days I feel great, and others (like today) I feel like crap. It has only been less than 3 weeks since your body went through a HUGE event, so give yourself some time, maybe it is just going through another adjustment period. Are you taking Vitamins? How is your weight loss going? Do you have another follow-up appt with your doc soon? If not, maybe you should call....

I am sorry that you feel so bad, I truly believe that it will pass soon. I'm sure some more experienced banders will have some better words of wisdom for you than I, but here is a big hug through cyberspace anyway!!

Chin up!! You can do this, and you will get through it!

Jenne

Could it possible be your menstrual cycle?

I got mine day 3 after surgery and on day 4 I had full blown cramps. My doc nixed the Ibuprofen I used to take for the pain, so Tylenol was my only choice (in addition to the Percocets I was taking which helped me to sleep).

Once I passed my first 3 days of my cycle I felt human again.

But what troubles me is that your port is bothering you. If it were me, I would call the doc's office and tell them the concern. They'd either say it's normal, or "if not better in a few days, call back", or they may want to see you right away.

I got my band on 10/3 too! Although I am feeling pretty good I do have some discomfort from my port from time to time. When I talked to the nurses they stated that it was a common statement from other patients.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
