I think I understand what you are asking, the abbreviations make it kind of difficult to read your post, but do you want to know whether the pre-op diet is necessary?

Some surgeons require it, some do not. The tide seems to be turning toward having a pre-operative diet, though. It is designed to be a very low-calorie, low-fat diet to shrink your liver. Some surgeons have you do a liquid diet, others just have you do a low-fat, low-calorie diet. The liver is directly over the area they need to access to place the band, so it must be retracted out of the way. That is hard to do and there's a risk for bleeding and damage if the liver is really fatty. The diet is to lose weight in a rapid fashion and the studies show that that rapid loss usually helps shrink the liver to make it more manageable.

I had a two week liquid diet before surgery and let me tell you, I am thankful that I did. If I had gone from eating whatever I want one day, then only having Water and broth the next day, I think I may have freaked out a little.

At 9 days post-op I cannot believe how little I can survive on. I am on two weeks of Clear liquids and after a couple of sips of broth or baby spoonfuls of Jello, I am stuffed. I think it would've been a harder transition if I hadn't had the pre-op diet.

Seriously ..find out for sure what you need to be doing and stick to it. Even if they don't put you on a diet, it may be a good idea to put yourself on one.

I had no pre-op diet and everything went fine. A lot depends on your BMI. Call your doctor to clarify, though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
