GMom 0 Posted October 21, 2007 Hello, The first part of my ride is over, 2nd to begin on 11/19/07 which is my banding date. I've been told by my nutritionist that i'd prob be on a liquid diet for 1-2wks bf surg, but my surgeon has'nt metioned it at all and the scheduler at his office did'nt say anything about it when she gave me my dates (PAT's, and surgery). Is this absolutely necs??
Princessannod1 0 Posted October 21, 2007 Hi I am being banded on November 13th and my doctor just told me to lose weight which I have over the past three months. Once he checked my current weight (which I have to update) he said the liquid diet is not necessary preop. I of course was scheduled for PAT's and surgery that is it. mrspruett 0 Posted October 21, 2007 Gmom- the liquid diet helps shrink your liver which makes the surgery easier and lessens the chance of complications. That is how they explained it to me. If the liver is too big then they cannot do the procedure laproscopically and will have to cut much bigger incisions or not do the operation at all. Goodluck. Alexandra 55 Posted October 21, 2007 Hi Gmom! My doctor, also in NJ, has no pre-op diet at all. Well, I think they might have said something about liquids the day before, but that's just because they want to be really sure there's nothing in the stomach when they operate. The liver-shrinking pre-op regimen is by no means universal, so if your doctor didn't mention it just count your blessings!
mrspruett 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Of course you should follow your doc's orders. I would ask my doctor if he requires any special diet preop. It is better to be safe than sorry. He could require no diet at all but he could have forgotten to mention it to you. It is always better to ask where your health is concerned.
TreTRe 0 Posted October 23, 2007 Alexandra, I am scheduled for Nov. 27, lap band with Dr.Abkin. What was your experiences with Dr. Abkin? How did the band slip after 3 1/2 years? Did your insurance pay for the removal and then to be rebanded? I appreciate any input you might have. TreTre
