LakeishaNicole 42 Posted November 28, 2017 After months of googling information, I finally decided to join this forum. I am soooooooooo excited but very nervous bout getting the gastric bypass. I have Anthem BSBC and it requires 6 months of consecutive weigh-in attempts with my PCP. I am nervous because last month I actually gained 5lbs. Although they said I did not have to lose any weight throughout those visits, I'm afraid that will give them a reason to deny me. Can someone with Anthem insurance let me know how long it took to receive an approval? Was the process smooth for you? My patient advocate said she would send the paper work in as soon as I get the last weight attempt sheet faxed over. I really want to get approved so I can go ahead and have the surgery in January. 2 porkytits and Jerseygirl4523 reacted to this

I also have Anthem, question...is it 6 visits or 7 that they require? I first saw my primary 2 weeks before my surgical consult because I knew the requirement and wanted a jump start. He’s been so supportive!

kakatlady612 1,053 Posted January 24, 2018 Yeah but sometimes they don't count your initial visit so,it might take you 7 months.Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

I also have anthem. My surgeon has a rule you cannot gain during the process, but by that they mean you cannot be heavier than the day you started the process (first consult). I have 1 month left!! Did you do 6 appointments in 6 months or did it have to be a min of 180 days? 1 porkytits reacted to this
shelleycakes 2 Posted April 1, 2018 Most insurance companies will deny if you have a net gain in weight during the 6 month program. Best to double check with your insurance company on their policy.
