2 Weeks until first fill, and I can eat anything (and I am)...HELP!

Recommended Posts

I was banded on Sept 14th, 2007. I have lost 25lbs so far and I have just recently started on solids. I lost the weight from will power, but mostly because I knew I couldn't have the foods I wanted. I didn't want to cause any problems with my band so I stuck to fluids and mushies very strictly. However, now that I am on solids, I have realized I can eat anything I want...bread, meat, diet pop, etc..even if I don't chew until a liquid state. I feel like I did pre-band. So now I have started gaining and I am beginning to lose my control. Has this happened to anyone else before first fill?..and will it stop when I have the fill? Maybe I should relax and enjoy these foods for another couple of weeks in case I am never able to enjoy them again...any input is appreciated..Thanks

Jaide0967, Your in what some call Lap-Band hell stage. My nurse told me to drink a glass of Water before each meal, keep the carbs low, and don't worry too much about losing. Just try not to gain.

I had my first fill in my VG band last tues. I get another 2cc next tues. Im hoping i will have some restriction. I must admit... the small fill did help with appetite though.

Hang in there!

Thanks so much..it is nice to know what I am feeling is so common, it is defined by some as an unofficial "stage" of the journey...I will take your nurses advice and try not to obsess about losing until my first fill...Thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
