I have noticed that my face has begun to break out. I was wondering if being banded has an effect on my skin and if anyone else is having his problem. Thanks

I didn't notice any breakouts, but I was kind of strangely sweaty for about 3 days after surgery. Were you? Could that contribute? Did you have skin troubles when you were younger? I KNOW! Maybe you're diet changes are flushing all the toxins out, including out your pores. That could happen right? I hope it goes away! Keep us posted!

I have found, in the past, that a switch from pure unhealthy eating to fresh foods and lots of Water leads to about a week of icky whiteheads. I'm no doctor, but I think that the poster above is correct. If you are flushing toxins, they'll leave any way they can, including through your face.

Don't go crazy with scrubbing, just keep at it with a gentle cleanser, and you can CAREFULLY pop whiteheads if your face and hands are clean.

This too shall pass.

I started to get the breakouts which I never get, in the two week low calorie pre-op diet. I agree with Holly- I think it is our bodies getting rid of all the toxins due to no longer eating all the junk. So even though it isn't fun, just think of it as a sign you are getting healthier. Mine cleared up and hasn't come back. So it will pass soon enough.

;)

That's so funny you mentioned it, I just noticed I have bumps on my chin area and I have good skin (sorry for the ego but I do).

Try Proactive

I'm 36 and swear by the stuff even though I never had any real acne issues as I got older I got these weird ones so I tried it. It worked.

I wonder if it has something to do with the Protein levels we're consuming. My face feels like suede! I try to exfoliate and it still feels rough! I've always had decent skin. This is just wierd.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
