Band Size, Any info???

Recommended Posts

I was anticipating the new AP band and had called my doctors office prior to surgery to be sure thats what he would be using. Instead they ended up putting in the 10cc band. He said they punctured the AP putting it in and that they didn't have any more left. I just found this out and I am very upset. I actually think they should replace my band! People seem to need many more fills with the 10cc. Im self pay and it has ruined this for me. HELP
The APS and APL bands are 10cc and 14cc respectively. Whichever band you got, if it's 10cc it still holds the same amount as the smaller AP band. Sorry that happened to you, but would you really want to go through re-operation?

AP-S. My surgeon told me the size depends on the size of the stomach. I don't know what part of the stomach he was referencing to though.

I would think that the larger band would would be more durable. Either way, the fills are the important thing and they can bhoth be adjusted to the same comfort level.

He was most likely referring to the top portion of the stomach. They need to put the band that fits around the top portion to create the pouch

My dr. told me that they now have "new and improved" bands. I was one of his first patients to get them. they are like 10cc's and 14 maybe. I got the 10.... I don't know if you surgion is using them yet but that is what I was told.

Mike, that sounds like a great reason to me. That's why a lot of people have gone to Mexico as well. Thanks for the clarification.

Good luck!

My doc only uses the larger AP band. He said it saves alot of complications with the small bands. Some people have too much restriction with the smaller bands even without fills, his opinion. It is his personal preference, so I went by what he recommended. I think some people may need smaller or larger depending on anatomy as well. The larger bands have more flexibility as far as fills go because you have more ability to continue filling, but I think you will need more fills to get to the "sweet" spot everyone talks about. Either way, small or large, I think the band itself is effective and docs know how to work with what they chose to benefit you. Good Luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
