Tanning Makes You Look Fatter Or Skinnier?

Recommended Posts

I've always joked that tanned fat looks better on me than pale fat. I'm sure I'll stick with the tanning. I don't go overboard, but I do like a little color to my skin.

Hmmm,

Health issues aside I have to say slimmer for sure, I am lucky that I have olive skin ( though I do look kinda green if I haven't seen the sun for too long - nice!!LOL)

Why dont you just invest in some fake bake tanning creme? I have friends that have fake bake girly nights in and they all help each other put their tans on, that way you get the colour without the risk.

i do notice once i finish burning (lol) that my pasty skin that has some glow on it looks a tad thinner but that is because in theory darker colors make an area appear smaller, just think of it as highlights or makeup, you put a light color under your brow bone to make the area appear larger, and a darker color in your crease to make that area appear smaller, same thing, its all about illusion...

At one of the spray-on tan places around here, they customize your spray so that it works as contouring. They put a bit darker on the bottom of the arms,. inner thigh area, and other spots, so that it tends to recede visually.

When I put on my fake tan lotion, I go over those same areas a second time so that they get a bit darker and I'll look more contoured. I do the same when I put on my facial makeup (mineral-type). I contour the cheek area in front of my ears so that my face looks thinner. I don't put it on very dark, but just touch.

I think tanned skin looks better than my regular pasty-white, but I don't do real tans since a tan is, by definition, skin damage. Tanning, even in a tanning bed, leads to wrinkles and possible melanoma.

I'm a dedicated fake tanner. I dont know that it makes me look thinner, but it makes me look WAY healthier.

If you keep it light, I reckon a dark tan is aging and looks pretty awful. But a light tan - in winter I still do my face, neck, chest and hands - blends in my dark undereye circles and means I need a bare minimum of makeup and dont frighten myself when I look in the mirror in the morning. I dont like a face full of make up personally, its not a look I like, so I'm happy to have an, ahem, "natural" glow and a bit of lipgloss.

I just dont look as healthy or nice when I go full on pale in the winter. But I stress, it has to be light - one coat. Orange is not a good look.

I think it depends a lot on your skin tone, I'm pale but olive if that makes sense. Fake tan on pink based skin, ugh.

In summer, I'm happy enough with the natural colour I get, I dont need to be dark, but I wouldnt bare my bod on the beach without the camouflage of a nice tan!

But fake is always best. Sunbeds are downright dangerous and there's not much point looking great with a tan at 28 if you look like a handbag at 40.

I think you have to find one that suits your skin colour. I like St Tropez, but there's 2 cheap ones that work really well on me too - Bronze Up is a great colour on my skin, and its non tinted and non sticky, and it doesnt have that development smell on me. So that's what I use mostly.

I just put a coat on at night twice a week.

For a special occasion you cant beat a Mystic Tan in the booth.

Being tanned always looks better. But don't go overboard, you don't want the leather look. Just a nice soft tan. Being here in Washington, I do the fake bake but just enough to keep some color.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
