Recommended Posts

I’ll be a year out on Saturday. I’ve lost 82 lbs so far. I’m proud of myself. I had the Sleeve done.

Feel free to ask any questions

As you get further away from your surgery date how is your appetite? Has it increased, if so by much?

Did you lose your hair? I’m so scared... my hair had been really growing nicely, and now all of a sudden every time I run my fingers through my hair I have several strands between my fingers. My hair was looking so pretty and long, and I just don’t want it falling out. I have been using Nioxin Shampoo since before surgery (gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair), which was on 9/11/17, and I’ve also been taking Biotin, zinc, B12, and also I take my multi Vitamin twice daily and Calcium, as well as my Iron, omprazole, and also started taking a collagen to help with hair, skin, joints, etc. The collagen is supposed to help hair, but it’s been since I started taking it that I’ve noticed my hair coming loose. :( Also, I’ve been at a standstill for about two weeks with no weight loss. Please help! Thank you!! Congratulations on your weight loss!!

I can only eat 4oz or 5 oz about every three hours now. At first I could only eat a few teaspoons of food. At about two months I was up to 2 1/2 oz of food. So for the life it should be about 4 to 5 oz.

What was your longest stall? How long did it last?how did you break it

I think I have a stall every couple of months. It’s very normal. My first stall was at a month out. Body was playing catch up. The second stall I had to increase my Protein to break the stall. I’m a slow loser also

Congratulations!! It’s normal for the hair to come out. Mine started at three months out. It grew back thicker which is a good thing. I take all my Vitamins and biotin too. Some people get lucky and don’t have Hair loss.

When you have a stall, your body is playing catch up. Don’t stress over it. It’s normal too. If you continue to stall try increasing your Protein. I had do this. Hope this helps

It depends on my day or mood. Also depends on if I’m at work. Work days I eat at 6:45am. I eat Protein first. That could be a yogurt or egg or oatmeal or even chicken. lunch I can eat a salad or chicken and a vegetable and same for lunch. I eat my last meal around 7 or 8pm. I eat three meals and two Snacks. I have coffee early in the morning. Small portions are s key. I do cheat sometimes. I don’t deprive myself of anything. I have my lemon drop Cookies. I even have my chicken strips from Popeyes. My cat [emoji250] helps me eat those. Lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
