8 weeks post op- vomiting and kidney stones

Recommended Posts

I️ am 8 weeks post op RNY and I have had nothing but issues since surgery. I have had constant acid reflux and vomiting. This weekend I was rushed to the hospital with horrible vomiting and abdominal pain. That episode turned out to be cause by kidney stones but the weird thing is I was vomiting food from 9:30 pm the night before. Has anyone had major issues with their stomach emptying? I’ve only advanced to puréed foods no further and keep getting put back on liquids. I’m scheduled for an upper GI tomorrow but my surgeon just keeps telling me this will get better in 3-6 months. I’m absolutely miserable and I regret everything about this surgery. Any advice would be welcomed.

According to the internet, kidney stones can cause horrible vomiting and abdominal pain. Since you are 8 weeks post op RNY and experiencing constant acid reflux and vomiting, there may also be another issue.

Strictures can occur once you are about 4 to 8 weeks out from surgery. A stricture is a narrowing of the new stomach outlet where it surgically attached to the small bowel. Symptoms include difficulty with eating solid foods, developing increased saliva or mucous, reflux symptoms, and in severe cases, difficulty with liquids. A stricture, with time, can resolve on its own, but often the waiting time to heal can make you feel miserable. Once you are out at least 4 weeks from surgery, balloon dilation with endoscopy can be performed to open up the narrowing. Several balloon dilations might be needed to fix the issue.

An endoscopy or an upper gastrointestinal study can help with this diagnosis. Since you are scheduled for an upper GI tomorrow, this might identify if a stricture is the problem.

After my RNY surgery, my surgeon prescribed Prilosec (Omeprazole) for the first year to allow my stomach to heal properly. I had severe acid reflux before surgery and used Prilosec to treat this condition. I am now over 4 years post op and haven't used Prilosec after the first year and severe acid reflux is no longer the problem for me. If a stricture is not the cause of your problem, then perhaps you might try Prilosec for the first year.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
