well it's 4 days post-op and I now have a terrible full-blown cold. I am just miserable. Can't stop sneezing and coughing - ouch, as my left side hurts just to breathe deeply, probably from the coughing. In addition to constantly blowing my nose - suddenly I am hungry on top of it all! GAH!

I am CIB or similar for the next 2 weeks and am dying to just have yogurt or a mashed potato. Finally broke out some REAL chicken Soup today - minus all the good stuff.

Anyone get sick right after surgery? this sucks!!

Oh MLS - I'm so sorry you got sick after surgery. One of my co-workers came to work with a terrible cold for two weeks before my surgery and I wanted to strangle him and say STAY HOME IF YOU'RE SICK!!!

Luckily I didn't catch his germs. I guess at least you'll stay put and get plenty of rest, which you need even if you weren't sick. Good luck and keep us posted. My surgery was the 16th too!

My surgery was on the 16th too and I'm sorry you have a cold. I just now started getting hungry too and all the fluids aint doing it for me but what can I do. I get motivated by the numbers decreasing on the scale daily so just hang in there sweetie. THIS TOO SHALL PASS. I have been able to drink yoghurt though....and my Protein Shakes since day 3! that was allowed on my diet.

P.S: Check with your doctor about that cold cos they gave me a spirometer to keep breathing into to prevent pneumonia cos they said some people get it after surgery cos they dont breathe deeply enough

thanks so much for letting me whine and making me feel better. You're right ms. diva - I do have asthma and have been using my inahlers, so a spirometer is a good thing!

Sorry to hear about the cold...I was hoping you might share your experiences with Dr T? I am being banded at the Faulkner on May 13th and would really love to hear first hand about the hospital and/or doctor.

Thanks!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
