So I went In for my surgery this morning as happy as a clam and nervous all at the same time. Next thing I know I'm in recovery feeling terrible. Dr comes in to tell I could not have RNY as I had to much scar tissue. He did repair a hernia for, which I did not know I had. Feeling very down and disappointed, frustrated and a ton of other emotions. Dr said he can do a sleeve in 2 months. I don't know if I can do this again. Feeling depressed.

I'm so sorry. How disappointing. :(

You can do it again. Think of this as being the hernia repair surgery in preparation for your bypass.

Best to you -

((hugs)) So sorry to hear this report sweetie!!! ((hugs))

I think @raising3monkeys has the right spin on this! This was an exploratory with a hernia repair!!! That alone will help with healing down the road and will make you feel better soon!!! And as soon as you're healed from this surgery, you will be able to go back in and have a VSG that is VERY successful for so many!!!

Heck, we might end up being surgery buddies!!! :D Try to stop the dissappointment from sinking in. Refuse to feel it. Flip the switch, say "NO!" And turn on a different light with a positive message: "I WILL heal and have VSG very shortly. I WILL feel better and have less GERD now that the hernia is repaired. I WILL feel better every day!!"

Hang in there honey!

That's terrible why didn't they just do the sleeve then? I've heard of people having the other in surgery for whatever reason. I'm so so sorry I can't imagine being opened up and the surgery not have been done.

I too woke up from a revision from sleeve to bypass with no incisions and it was absolutely heart breaking. Cried for days. It gets better over time and you’ll decide what to do.

I am sorry to hear this, don’t give up. You have come this far, the sleeve will still create significant weight loss. My wife had to have her hiatal hernia repaired and then had the sleeve like 2 or 3 months later. Just hang in there. What’s another two months? If you are like me, then you were obese for the better part of a decade. What will it hurt to wait an additional 2 months? Perspective my friend.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
