Healthy eater before sleeve. Will I succeed?

Recommended Posts

I’ve always been a healthy eater-just too much- I always had a huge appetite and got to almost 300 pounds eating pretty healthy. I did snack a lot- ate a lot of fruit - and def ate carbs. But I never often ate fried food, junk like chips, or donuts muffins and other sweet carbs. On occasion I did- like my normal weight friends. So the question is- I’m def eating a lot less at 3 mos post op but still eat similar foods except for the large amounts. Protein veggies and a little carbs are my staples. I have a bite of my family Desserts at restaurants very rarely. I exercise a lot- today walked 8 miles. I just noticed that for those who make a huge 360 in their eating habits are making huge gains in weight loss. My eating habits are more about portion due to the sleeve. Will I lose as much weight as those making a huge change. I’m not finding the transition that different and so this process seems easier for me. But I’ve only lost 50 so far- now about 10 a month. Anyone have the same experience. Just wondering if I should do some 360 changes like no carbs- which would be depressing and stressful.

I was pretty much the same. Good food, just bad Portion Control. Occasional sugary binges. I think you just have to keep plugging away and see where it gets you. If it doesn't make you crazy, cut the carbs, if it does, maybe limit a little more.

I have no real suggestions other than I get it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
