I’m scheduled for January 29th... this is a revision from the sleeve to RNY.
Kinda nervous but excited at the same time! I hope we can all keep in touch during our journeys.

It's so exciting! I don't know why I don't have a liquid preop diet. It's all veg and Protein. I start that on the 30th December I think. Aargh!

Hi Christel11,

I’m also looking at end of January/ beginning of February... but I also wanted to say that I had noticed a lot of the programs require a 2 week liquid diet but the surgeon I’ll be having has people on a “liver shrinking diet” for two weeks (which is bacially what I eat now) and the day before surgery is the one day liquid diet... I would have been concerned about this but the hospital has won a lot of awards and he’s known to be one of the best surgeons in the US. So I’m glad for the one day liquid... they recommend drinking the Isopure Protein water... they also said to be trying different liquids for after the surgery as well.. I found the isopure but ended having to “cut” it with Water as it is very sweet ... has 40 grams of protein....

good luck and look forward to hearing how it goes with you!

ps... my birthday is January 12th and wishing I was having it then!! Lol

Are you nervous

Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

I go back & forth. Some days I'm very nervous & wondering if I'm making a huge mistake because this was an impulsive decision to have this done, then other days it's no big deal & I'm ready. Mostly I will miss that extra $7000 in my checking account. LOL It's been nice having it sit there while I wait for my surgery date. Regardless of my nerves, I am going through with this. I had my lap band by the same MD close to 10 years ago in Puerto Vallarta and it hasn't been successful for me so I'm flying back down to Mexico on Jan 3rd, bypass surgery on the 4th, flying home on the 10th. Oh, there is actually one thing I'm nervous about and that's post op care. I don't have a doctor I see regularly, and none that know I'm even doing this surgery, so I'm nervous about having no follow up care in the US and no family to assist afterwards. I'm pretty much on my own. That's the major downside to surgery in Mexico. If you're not comfortable being your own MD, then have it done in the US where you can be closely followed. I will have to be very proactive and make sure I'm doing everything I should be doing.

You are very brave. I wish you all the best and especially after, once you are back home. The good thing about this site is the mortal support we can give each other!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
