This is my very first set of holidays living this new lifestyle, and I have to admit it is coming easier than I thought which makes me nervous. First adventure was going to the movies (we saw Justice League) the smell of popcorn was amazing but did not turn me into a popcorn eating machine like normal. We bought a large popcorn and soda for my 3 kids and husband to share and I sat farthest from the popcorn train. I snuck in (shhhh) an ounce of Jerky to chew on if needed and I did i nibbled through the whole movie. You know what I made it through woohooo. Next was Thanksgiving now I do all the cooking so the tasting was hard I had to submit to finger tip tastes rather than spoonful tastings. I am not going to say this part was easy but far easier than expected. I had a few finger licking issues lol but got through. I had issues with the meat plate I automatically wanted to just toss some prosciutto in my mouth I caught myself woohooo. The dinner turned out amazing and I had my turkey and was strangely satisfied. I also drank my power aid zero from a wine glass what a girl has got to get fancy sometimes. Then today during the mad dash shopping I hit starbucks and was almost scared to order i mean I am typically the girl that gets the skinny caramel macchiato with extra pumps so what the hell was I going to get now with very limited sugar So i just told the barista and she whipped me up a dark roast coffee with 3-4 tablespoons of full cream (not milk) and a couple pumps of sugar free vanilla it was wonderful and so tasty and a little burst when it was desperately needed. Next step is all the holiday get togethers I am a work in progress and that is ok but I made it through this part. How did all of you do???

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
