TLBC Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 1 year ago at the TLBC. I am 8 lbs away from Goal. It was a great experience, and the staff have truly been helpful. I was getting a fill adjustment the other day, and another Bandster said to me why are you thinking of getting a band you are so skinny...Well no one has said that to me since I was 18, so thank you! It felt great. It was a tough year, but the best decision I ever made.

Hi

I was so excited to see your post about TLBC. I just booked my lapband surgery for January 17. I hope I am as successful as you have been. I can't seem to stop eating right now.

Iwood I was banded at TLBC and whole heartedly recommend Dr. Yau. There are a few great clinics in Canada but one of the outstanding features of TLBC is they have local support and distant support (I live in BC). You will be introduced to the TLBC support groups and they are a very friendly bunch. One of them met me at the clinic for my first fill. They also have a nutrionist/chef called Jill. She gives excellent advice. Good luck in your journey. Doddie

I am getting my band on Jan 3rd at TLBC. Alittle anxious about the whole thing, but rather exicted, happy to find this site and some Canadians too!

Anne Elliot: January 3rd so close. You had to go thru the holdays on the special diet. You sure are dedicated. Good luck and keep in touch. As you will find, you will go thru all the emotions in the book, sometimes even second guessing your decision, but as most bandsters will attest, they would do it again in a minutes. I certainly would. I keep a loose fill and am loosing .85 lbs per week, but others like a tight fill. You will have to find your own way, but my advice to you now, don't rush thru the 30 days of liquids, full fluids, soft foods etc. You band will need time to heal. So you may be in a hurry to loose weight, but if you play by Dr. Yau's rules, everything shold be OK. Good luck and Merry Christmas. Doddie

I remember my Pre Surgery excitement well... just remember this will be your last fat Christmas... o.k. I CAN see you smiling now...

Just like Doddie said, those 6 wks of healing are crutial and eating exactly as THEY tell you... you can do anything for a short period of time... once you start getting your fills you'll be on your way.

Happy New Year!

p.s. where are you from doll

<br /> <br /> Hi Doddie<br /> I can't remember if I replied to this post already or not. How do you get fills out West? How are things going with you? I can't wait to get started.<br /> Lynda <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/happy.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" smilieid="60" class="inlineimg" />

Hi: After a time, story to long to tell, TLBC referred me to a bariatric surgeon in Delta,BC . After reviewing my health histroy and the comments from TLBC he took me on as his patient and he does the fills. I am very satisfied with him.

TLBC has great support groups in and around Toronto, but they are only now attempting to give support to out of province people. I have been doing ok, but having someone to be accountable to when I reach a plateau is good and Jill fills the bill.

I smile when you say "I can't wait to get started". You HAVE STARTED YOUR JOURNEY. The hardest part actually. The surgery is a snap and after that it is all how you address you weight issue. For me, it was to focus on my eating habits, particularly chewing, then nutrion. I keep a loose fill as I still tend to swallow too quickly and lumps get stuck. Then I have to PB, which is not good. I am loosing .85 average a week so feel good. My GP asked what I thought about the band and I areplied "I wish I had done it sooner". Good luck to you Merry Christmas and a most successful new year. Doddie

Hey Doddie thank you that is so nice of you to remember. I am recovery well, I was even able to make lunch for my younger sibilings today. I have one question actually, I know we are suppose to eat broth, does that count out watered down KNOR Soup like brochili and vegies without any chunks in them? I find it very hard to eat the broth.

Ps. TLBC nurses were the best of the best, so kind and helpful and ofcourse Dr Yau was great my mother couldnt beleive how young he was or looks

No Anne Elliott: You are on Clear Liquids for a few days. You hopefully were given a chart to follow. Clear Fluid, for a few days then full fluids then soft mushies, then taking your time and experiementing with full food. I can't stress enough that you err on the side of caution to allow your band to heal. Even if you feel like eating, please don't break Dr. Yau's instructions. If you have any doubt whatsoever, call the head nurse on the 1-800 number and ask you questions. They are very good at responding. These questions are asked many times over but they treat you like they have never been asked before. Keep in touch. Doddie

Oh forgot. The CanadianLapBanders.com is run by Nancy of the TLBC. You may want to join that as most TLBC patients subscribe along with Dr. Cobourne(sp?) patients. Doddie

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
