I was sleeved on 11/14/17 and left the hospital the next day feeling great. I think perhaps I was drinking too fast I started to get what felt like terrible reflux I was told by my surgeon that it was most likely esophageal spasms. at the suggestion of my GP I took a Xanax and relaxed my throat considerably. I also took a chewable Pepcid.

Again other than my throat I feel great and I’m already down 12 pounds and two sizes of pants since starting the liquid diet. I’m simply curious if the spasms or something I’m going live with the rest of my life or if this is something that is part of the territory and will go away. Also if anyone has any advice I would appreciate it

Hi there, congrats we are surgery buddies, my surgery was last week also and I had the same problem, doc said it was probably because of the hiatial hernia I had repaired. Did you have any hernias repaired also. My throat discomfort went way on Saturday.

Are your spasms like hiccups? Because I have these these horrible hiccups and they get on my nerves! I honestly thought it was because I was was drinking too fast as well but then I noticed that I was getting them more frequently even when I am not drinking anything.

I had my surgery on 10/02. I get terrible hiccups. I use it as a sign to stop eating or drinking. I get terrible heartburn if I don’t take my Pepcide everyday. Depending on what I eat, I’ll feel the food move up and down my esophagus. Usually chicken does that to me. Again, I’ll have to stop eating.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
