Hi All. I'm glad to stumble across this page! Was really looking to do the Lap Band but after talking to so many people I might do the sleeve. Any one in the North New Jersey area that love their doctor/surgeon? I have TWO seminars to go to at different places, different set of doctors. xoxo Mimi

I have my first appointment with Dr. Trivedi from Advanced Laparoscopic Associates in Paramus coming soon. I attended the HUMC seminar and was very impressed. My GP recommended Dr. Trivedi, but everywhere I ask, I hear the same thing. He is the goto guy in the area.

Per the Lapband, everything I read kinda pointed to VSG as the best for success. Everyone's journey is different. Good Luck!

definitely don't do the lapband. Lots of people have problems with it. In fact, a lot of surgeons refuse to do them anymore. Go with the sleeve or the bypass. They both have proven track records.

Dr. Schmidt, Trivedi and Ewing ran the HUMC seminar. Very informative.

I met with Trivedi today. Very nice man, lots of patience with all my questions. I also did my nutritional evaluation with their in house Nutritionist. All went smooth. Now, six months for pre-op diet and I should be all set.

DO NOT do lap band. Reputable surgeons and the major centers no longer do them at all. You will have multiple issues and eventually have to have it removed. My surgeon only does removals now. Several a week. I chose VSG but RNY is still the gold standard. Good luck. Do your research and you'll do great.

Did He keep you two days? I heard he likes to keep Sleeve patients an extra day just to be safe.

Yeah, standard 2 days. In case of any complications. But all good

I'm not in New Jersey, but I had the sleeve in June and I would do it all over again. I stayed in the hospital one night, only because I reacted badly to the anesthesia.

If your in northern NJ why not go to NYC. I was at NYU. If you have a complication you don’t want to be in a ‘center’ you want to be in a multidisciplinary full hospital.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
