Hi all,

I have my surgery coming up on the 2nd December, and I am starting to get so nervous. I have started Optifast and so far, that's fine. I am definitely ready for this surgery, but I am scared it won't work for me, or that weightless will be very slow.

What kind of weightless can I expect in 3 months in kgs? And when would I be well enough to go to spin class and do weights? Will I need multi-vitamins? I have so many questions.

I am so afraid the weight will pile right back on after a few years...

Any words of confidence right now will be very appreciated.

Thanks

Where are you having surgery? Don't you go to a nutritionist/dietician? Yes Vitamins are required.

Your physician will tell you when you can exercise and lift weights.

You can't expect any amount . Plus how can we estimate for you. We don't know your body. And even though you do we never know what it will do. Setting expectations can lead to feeling like you have failed. So as long as you stick to you plan focus on that. Everyone's start weight is different.

I lost 50 lbs in 3 months. Some lose 15.

You have surgery second of December and you don't know if you need Vitamins ?

Spin class - ask your actual doctor. Each has different rules.

Thanks for that. I found out that I will be taking multi-vitamins.

Were you exercising to lose that much?

I am not sure what recipes I should be making the first few months through the phases. Does anyone know if there are any recipe books out there? Won’t eating mash potato in the purée phase make you put on weight? I mean it’s carbs. Should I be sticking to other veg like cauliflower? Did you add butter or anything to make it yummier?

thanks

Everyone is different and there are so many physiological changes that there is no guaranteed or average weight loss amount. Some of the things that can effect it is starting weight, gender, age, height, even ethnicity. I personally lost 35 pounds during the first 12 weeks.

As for recipes there are a lot of great sites online that offer recipes for different stages of the diet. Even pintrest has boards with recipes. Just make sure you stick with your plan from your surgeon and follow the stages.

As for mashed potatoes they are carbs but your intake is so little in the early stages that it's not going to make a drastic difference. I would add Protein Powder to everything I ate. Mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and refried Beans were all allowed on my pureed diet and something I ate. I didn't start solids until 10 weeks on my plan.

I was allowed to go back low impact cardio at 4 weeks and was released for regular exercise around 8-10 weeks I believe. I currently try and hit the gym 3 days a week but some weeks I'm lucky to get there at all. Just stay as active as you can and find little ways to get your steps in especially early out like parking as far away from the door in a parking lot as possible and when I'm shopping I make sure I walk down every aisle even if I don't need anything in that aisle. I also will park at the opposite end of the mall when I need to shop there. In the gym I do swimming, treadmill and elliptical mostly but next year I'm going to start dancing again.

Hi. I didn't exercise one bit. But many people do.
I dont make recipes to be honest with you . And I wouldn't worry about that yet as you will have to try little bits of things to see what you can tolerate for your tummy aswell as your changing taste buds.
I eat simple
Protein.
Fish meatballs steak eggs occasionally bacon

I pair it with a veg
Spinach. Cucumber . Lettuce tomatoes

And sometimes dairy
Like cheese

I ate cottage cheese alot at first now it makes me feel sick. I can't seem to enjoy yogurt either.

In terms of carbs my plan isn't low carb so can't quite help you there but I didn't have mash potatoes till a few months post.

You can make colliflouwer mash as you suggested.

Any other questions? Im happy to help though I only have four months experience lol I remember being so nervous. But I'm so glad I did it.

You're amazing!!! Just curious how long it was before you saw a difference, and have others seen a change yet? Does the time go by fast, and are your energy levels back?

Thank you so much! Saturday is getting close for me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
