Surgery date 11/16

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 11/16 I was very nauseous after but didn't throw up. I slept most of the afternoon. I woke up at 2am and went for a lap around the ward. At 7am they took me for my leak test. Everything came out fine so I was sent home by noon. I'm not in a lot of pain However it is painful when I drink. I am on clear liquid until Tuesday when I can start adding Protein. broth and Water go down pretty good but Jello and popsicles burn my stomach. I've been pretty active today. Went for a little walk around the block, started a load of laundry and washed dishes. When hubby gets home, we will do two laps around the block.

I had surgery on the same day! My Clear Liquids are for 7 days and I’m already fantasizing about the yoghurt I’m going to have Friday morning. My surgery was at 7:30 and by 9:30 I was back in my room. At noon I went for my first walk around the ward which was tiring but I made it. My Dr requires that you walk every 2 hours for about 10mins. The only thing really bugging me is the pain just above my belly button incision. The pain isn’t on the site, just a bit higher up, I hope that it will pass soon because I want to start walking on the treadmill on Friday.
I also did some laundry yesterday which I pretty much avoid doing, seems like the surgery is turning me into a good partner, lol.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
