Youcangirl3 23 Posted November 18, 2017 I have been on prenisone since August 28th having had the gastric sleeve surgery on July 12th. I was diagnosed with temporal arteritis prednisone dosge from 60 mg. a day to 55 mg.a day for a month and now reducing weekly. The last two weeks is when my weight gain began and my moon face....eeek.....I am grateful to not be blind or infirmd but I went through this surgery to lose weight. I just needed to vent to like minded peers. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
shedo82773 1,236 Posted November 19, 2017 That must be hard. How much longer do you have to take the Steroids? Hopefully not much longer. Just hang in there, it will get better. This isn't an on-going thing right. 1 Youcangirl3 reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted November 19, 2017 ((hugs)) Dayum, I hate them, but they are often necessary evils!!! Hang in there hon! Glad they caught it. Arteritis is difficult to dx!!! The weight will come off and the moon face will resolve. Please be gentle and patient with yourself. The moon face might take as long as 3 months to resolve. 1 Youcangirl3 reacted to this
kittymommy 22 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) OMG!! I can totally relate! I started gaining weight at 19 when I had my first asthma attack and was hospitalized and had to be on steroids. Since then, I've been struggling with my weight and am now over 100lbs overweight. The struggle is real. It's a vicious cycle: my asthma is bad because of my weight, my weight goes up because of the steroids, I have to take steroids to help the asthma. UGH!!!! I'm pre-op VSG now and going to meet the surgeon later today. I was supposed to lose 12lbs before my surgery, but had to be on Prednisone after Thanksgiving and gained weight So there goes my progress. It totally sucks! Hang in there! I try to drink a lot of Water so I can pee out as much excess fluids as possible. Unfortunately that means waking up in the middle of the night with a painful bladder. You got this! You came this far and you will get through it! Edited December 13, 2017 by kittymommy

I just needed to vent to like minded peers. I went through something similar. Had my surgery in August. My body freaked out from the surgery and I had this autoimmune problem in September. I spent time in hospital and was put on intravenous steroids for 3 days followed by 50mg of prednisone. I did taper off and stopped altogether after about a month. Still, it was the worst! It felt like the universe was mocking me. Here i am trying to lose weight and then bam, I'm forced to take steroids! The main point is that you have to take care of your health first. I hope that you're okay now. I know you posted this a little while ago, but I just wanted to say that i know what you're going through. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
