protein powders

Recommended Posts

I used Dymatize Elite Cafe Mocha (with 8 oz of skim milk it goes about 32 grams of protein). VERY tastey. I have that for Breakfast each morning. I also drink Isopure Protein clear drinks. They are like koolaid and they are NOT BAD at all. Come in about 8 flavors. One bottle has 40 grams of Protein and about 80 calories. Great for a supplement. Check out the website...

Make sure the Protein powders you are using are appropriate for bariatric patients, not made for jocks. A good one should have more than 20 grams of protein in a scoop and no carbs. And it must taste good....there are good ones on the market, you don't have to settle for yucky-tasting stuff (and there is a lot of that on the market!). EAS & whey Gourmet are two of my favorites.

I was just Protein shopping and found that Slim fast low carb has the most protein and lowest carbs out of all the slim fasts, Atkins. I was going to do the powder jock stuff, but that had 20gram of carbs! Also realized carb shopping, that apples, bananas, and some veggies have a lot of carbs!

I used to think that Slim Fast had too much sugar in it...did they change it?

I love the EAS powder..I get it at Sams Club and it lasts months.

Slim Fast does have a low-carb version. My nutritionist even recommended it. I haven't checked it out yet.

I use and love Cinch powders...they aren't as high in Proteins as the others mentioned, but they also aren't as chalky tasting. Plus, the have Leucine in them...it's an amino acid that bonds to lean muscle and aids in retaining muscle mass while losing weight.

I use the vanilla flavored Isopure, and I make a shake in the morning with a cup of fat free skim milk, one scoop of powder, and a few frozen fresh strawberries or frozen blueberries. It tastes great and it's like 30 grams of Protein per shake. It's the best tasting recipe I've come up with so far, I went thru some NASTY powders before I found the ISOPURE. Don't get it at GNC, they charge an arm and a leg for it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
