Polly Pocket 83 Posted November 18, 2017 Can you eat spicy foods after surgery? If so, is there a waiting period?I plan on making some meals for the freezer and wasn't sure.Sent from my SM-T560NU using BariatricPal mobile app

mylighthouse 782 Posted November 18, 2017 (edited) Saw a thread on here a few months ago on this same topic. Most people said they did fine with spicy foods after surgery. I was the exception. I used to love jalepenos, Sriracha and many spicy things. Never had a problem until after surgery. Now spicy burns my tongue and mouth and just doesn't taste good anymore. Heartburn isn't an issue with me. My suggestion is start slowly and see how you do with it. Most likely you will be fine. Berry78 4,261 Posted November 19, 2017 Oh man, no tomatoes or a whiff of spicy for 8-12 weeks. After that, I've been fine. Just was too irritating to the injured baby tummy. I don't really enjoy spicy now, but at least it doesn't hurt. Tomatoes are good.
GwennyPenny 108 Posted November 19, 2017 Im 12 weeks out RNY and gave away some tins of spice tuna that I was scared to try but last night I had to make some vegetarian dishes for friends who love spice. I made some very spicy things like Lebanese lentil salad and harissa falafel. I tested both and omg they were hot but no problem on the stomach just my tongue lol Sent from my CPH1607 using BariatricPal mobile app
LaLaDee 519 Posted November 19, 2017 Lol. This was one of my biggest dears. I have a collection of chilli sauces in my pantry. However, I was adding chili sauce to my Soups during the puree phase. Thankfully no issues whatsoever.
Nancy MBGC 90 Posted November 19, 2017 I can still eat spicy. The first time I did I had a slight tummy ache. After that, no probs. 1 Polly Pocket reacted to this
dreamingsmall 1,125 Posted November 19, 2017 I wouldn't make spice food in advance in case you can't deal with it after. You need to keep it basic at first. But I eat spicey food.
