Katariina 35 Posted November 17, 2017 It has been a little over 2 months since my bypass surgery. I thought that I would have a hard time eating unhealthy stuff like Cookies but would be able to tolerate small amounts of meat etc at this point. This is not the case. If I eat even a little bit of chicken, or fish I will be sick for hours and vomiting all the time. I cannot tolerate any Pasta, bread, or salad either. Yet, I have no problem eating a cookie. I was hoping that I could follow a healthy diet that would consist of things like grilled salmon with vegetables but no, my tummy loves mashed potatoes and cookies! I don't know what to do anymore. Should I take a step backwards and start drinking Protein Soups again? I am concerned that I am not getting enough Proteins. I have lost about 40 pounds so far and I am happy about that. It is only that I am having such a hard time finding lunch options that would not make me vomit. 2 Sherry Rice and f**k you reacted to this

Katariina 35 Posted November 18, 2017 I saw my doc today. I was told that I am severely dehydrated and I have Protein in my urine due to the dehydration. It is really hard to get enough liquids inside me when I feel nauseated or vomit all the time. I have decided to give up on eating solids for now in order to get more Proteins and liquids. I really hope that I begin to tolerate food better soon. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
karen_marie 220 Posted November 21, 2017 It's not necessarily that your tummy loves unhealthy foods (good news!), but stuff like Cookies are what people refer to as slider foods (not so good news haha). Slider foods are are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. When slider foods are consumed, they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum where the simple carbohydrate slurry is quickly absorbed and stored by the body. There is little thermic effect in the digestion of simple carbohydrates like there is in the digestion of Protein so little metabolic energy is expended. The most commonly consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker Snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free cookies, cakes, and candy. Definitely keep talking with your doc and nutritionist if you continue having issues with solid foods. Maybe try some vegetarian options that are higher in protein, like chili with Beans but no meat. Good luck and keep us posted! 2 patra and FluffyChix reacted to this
goldenbarbie 329 Posted November 29, 2017 I also had the same problem in my early stages of surgery. Are you drinking enough Water? Try to drink 20oz of water then when you can try something small like a piece of salmon and it should go/stay down 1 FluffyChix reacted to this

It is only that I am having such a hard time finding lunch options that would not make me vomit. I at 10 weeks can’t digest most foods either, but I definitely don’t go near those foods. ( cookies) They are old habits and we should avoid them. also avoid bread and Pasta. It’s normal not to tolerate lots of foods for a long time. Nothing you can do about it until your body is ready. I throw up easily too with even healthy tiny bites of ground turkey or lettuce.. I do Protein Shakes, some bites of Protein Bars, cottage cheese, add tiny chopped strawberries, string cheese.. etc. I can even digest sliced up baby carrots (3 small ones) dipped in laughing cow cheese, ( 35cals) as long as I chew VERY well. The soft cheese helps slide the carrots down. That’s basically what I eat. I know it sucks, but talk to your doctor and use myfitnesspal app if you already don’t. Good luck !
