Anyone else use stuffed animal for post-surgery tummy support?

Recommended Posts

I've been meaning to share since I got home from my 10/27/17 surgery and just keep forgetting - until now! My hospital is AWESOME - they give you a 'Bari-Bear' for stomach support after surgery! They gave him to me while I was getting prepped for surgery, and he's the cutest thing!

He's not a normal Teddy Bear though. He is very firm, and has more of a flat body shape than rounded. He's perfect to hold against your tummy when coughing, moving, walking, etc after surgery. I don't really need Barry (that's his name haha) very much now that I'm about 3wks out from surgery, but I do still keep him in bed for a little extra support when I sleep on my side.

Did anyone else get something similar from the hospital, or did you bring your own??

That is so cute! My hospital didn't do anything like that - I just used a plain old pillow. But the bear is so much more fun :)

I brought my own Bari Bear only he was a moose from the same manufacturer as the bear. One nurse scoffed at me and said I'd been 'had' - that a pillow worked just as well. She was wrong! Mort the Moose was so much firmer and provided so much more support that I never dreaded an oncoming cough. Don't need him anymore but he's front and center on the guest room bed now.

Well worth the $$ if you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
