Hi everyone,

After years of failing to lose weight through diets and exercise, I decided WLS is the best option for me and I'm opting for the sleeve.

What makes me worried/anxious/nervous - what if it doesn't work for me? I failed at every attempt I've tried!

I've been struggling with my weight nearly all of my life, and have been through countless gyms, group exercises, weight loss programs (LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), and I've even tried weight loss products like Stacker 4 and Slim Fast.

How many of us have been to they gym, worked out for hours, for months, and have barely seen any weight loss?

I'm about 75% complete with my surgeon's prerequisites, and will be meeting him on Dec 13. That's when I'll also have my psych evaluation. And what I'm hoping for, a surgery date.

So I reach out to our wonderful community because I know we have all felt and tried so many things to lose the weight. Have you gone through the same jitters/self-doubt about the weight loss surgery? It is so permanent!

I plead for some positive success stories!

Thank you!

hi there! I have been through the hoops and am having my surgery this month the 20th! I am scared and anxious about it. It took me since April when I started this journey and the hoops have been many but preserver and you will get there. I can honestly say that everyone I have spoken with have absolutely lost weight (dramatically) with the sleeve. Good luck to you, hope to talk with you again!

First step is taking responsibility. Went to the gym never lost weight ? Then you were eating to much and not tracking or you wouldn't need this surgery . If you were gyming barely eating still not losing. An investigation would be under way not this surgery as an option. And yeah I'm not judging you my fatness happened And I thought it wouldn't work for me as I was fat despite dieting. The truth is I was eating nothing all day and crap in secret.

It's not magic. But I thought it wouldn't work for me. And it is working. Be real with yourself. Realise we are all human make mistakes but we have to be committed. And know what mistakes we make and not blame other things for our weight. I've known people say there fatness is due to all kinds of external factors. Sure.. but the surgery worked for them.. with those external factors still there. Go figure. Good luck.

If you don't start taking responsibility though... Your psych eval might not go as smoothly as you hope.

What's your stats

I should also mention that I've been on and off corticosteroids for my asthma for the past 25 years making it difficult to lose weight. Has anyone else experienced this?

if you commit to follow the rules, the process of the sleeve will help. I am 3 weeks out, and could not overeat if i wanted to. A few bites of soft foods and I am full. I am no longer "chained" to food, no longer always wanting to stop and grab a diet coke and a snack, or something from a vending machine, or taking a large portion of food.

I really love the freedom from food that I feel. Starting at my 1-week-pre-op weight, I am now down 28 lbs (at 3 weeks post op)

Was 263, now 235.

Good Luck, I hope you are happy and confident as you move forward. Having this place to check in with is great for support and questions.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
