Time out of work

Recommended Posts

Today I got my surgery date, (12/1) and I'm super excited. Here is my question. My husband works 3rd shift Sunday night through Thursday night. He has Friday and Saturday off. My surgery is on a Friday, How many days should he request off from work? I also have an 11 year-old. I'm not that worried about her helping out. Expect for making sure she actually gets out bed in the a.m, to get ready for school. I'm not to worried about dinners and household stuff. Would be able to return Monday?

I honestly didn't rely on my boyfriend. lol when I was in the hospital I was nauseous and in so much discomfort, I didn't even want to talk or anything. I'm the type where I just like to be left alone. I made sure before surgery that all my liquids were set up in the fridge and easily accessible, same with the broth and stuff for my liquid diet. I got everything on my own when I needed to. Getting in and out of bed was the hardest for me the first week. Just some stuff to think about. Everyone is different though. If you need that support and help and it's there, then that's awesome. My boyfriend was there but not much help lol

My surgery is on Tuesday. I'm thinking I'll return to work the following Wednesday. I work in an office setting. I walk from my office to the printer about 30 times a day. Does this sound reasonable?

how did the surgery go? where you able to go back to work as planned? I have a similar job and just wondering how much time I need to take off. In my mind I was hoping to have like a Wed, Thurs, Fri off and go back Monday.

My surgery is not until December 19th. I requested off through the 26th and will return to work on the 27th. I'm lucky to have an understanding boss so if I need more time I can have it. I also have the option of working half days or working from home. Good luck to you! When is your surgery?

It will be mid January at my request. I'll finish all my apps by 12/11 but want to wait until after holiday to do it. My boss is great too but I don't want to tell him what I'm doing. Not sure what I'm going to tell him yet, tbh

I was out of work for 1 week. I ended staying in the hospital for 4 nights because I was constantly nauseous and couldn’t really tolerate liquids. However, once I got home, I was ok because I was sure to stock up on all the liquids, broth, etc. that I needed for the first 2 weeks. Fortunately I didn’t have any incisional pain, so getting up and moving around wasn’t an issue for me. The gas pain and stomach spasms were rough at first, and they eventually faded after a week.

FYI, I work as a nurse practitioner and I walk throughout the day to round on my patients within the facility where I work. I don’t do any heavy lifting or anything like that. I felt weak the first few days after returning, but it was mostly related to lack of calories and trying to keep up with my workload. After my 3rd day back to work, I was fine. I’m guessing I would have benefited from taking 10 days off, opposed to 7.

I just had my surgery on Monday. My gf had time off and was there for the biggest part of my 4 day stay. It was very nice having her there but I wouldn't have asked her to miss work for it.

It's nice to see the face of a loved one when you come out of recovery.... but the rest of the day was a write off.

Also... loved ones want to get things and do things for you. This is counterproductive. After surgery you need to walk, move, get up and down. It's the best thing you can do for yourself; so do it for yourself.

IMO.... your husband may want to be there when you wake up.... but probably doesn't need to miss work.

The best thing a loved one could do is help put those leg massagers on and plug them in, those where a pia by your self

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
