Anyone dealing with SAD?

Recommended Posts

Have you ever had just "one of those days"? You know the kind that you don't feel well but you're not sick? The kind that makes you just want to go home from work and curl up in your bed and sleep all day and all night? Yep. It's that kinda day for me today. I think a lot of it has to do with my SAD and it's flaring cause it's overcast, gloomy and cold out. I don't want to do anything. How do you get out of this mood/feeling?

(Sorry I know this is not WLS related but I know you will understand. 1f641.png )

I'm having the same problem. Lets blame it on the weather. Ha ha. I have found myself in a funk and haven't worked out in two weeks but today i taking my butt to the gym today! I gotta shake this feeling and working out make me feel good, so back to the gym i must go.

But cuddling in bed sounds soooooo good right about now.

Fight the feeling, this will pass soon1

I feel same. Some days I just wanna hide in my bed. I KNOW its not okay since I got things I need to do, like searching for a new job. When I feel like this I try to do meditation, listen to some nice music, or go for a walk even if its cold outside, since it helps me to feel better. Try finding something to do that makes you feel happy even those days. Big Hug

SAD can be treated with an ultraviolet (not tanning) light; you can get the bulbs at places like Lowe's or Home Depot. Put one wherever you sit most i.e., chair or desk at work. It really helps.

Also, IMHO, daylight saving change doesn't help!

Can you tell me if the bulbs at Lowes are the Natural Light ones or what they are called that I would need to get? This is a great suggestion. Thanks.

I have a light box that has natural light -- it's called DayLight, and I got it from Amazon. I don't use it enough, though. I have depression year-round, but it definitely gets worse in the winter when there is less daylight. It also helps, if you work during the day and do not generally have windows, it is good to get out for a few minutes and take a walk.

I would also so love to be in my bed right now...

I'm not sure about SAD as I already have depression but definitely have been feeling gloomy and not wanting to go for walks. Which is silly b/c I have fleece-lined active wear that keeps me toasty and I absolutely love being outside on nature trails. So why don't I want to do it? Very weird... not sure if it's seasonal or something else. But you are not alone!

I get the Purely UV ones because they fit into all the lights we have. I find it helps.. I grew up where there was lots of light, year round, and to SE part of US where it's overcast. It makes a difference!

Winter? Just let me sleep!! I use a light box as well. Darker hours mean more naturally produced melatonine plus the body needs natural light to create serotonin. Days get longer 21 December and I am counting. Big hugs and be kind to yourself.

I'm so excited. My boss is paying for a pack of "natural light" light bulbs for my office. YAY! (Not that they were so expensive that I couldn't pay for them)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
