Jenmcc 0 Posted November 13, 2017 I had Gastric Bypass back in 2005, continues to loose weight with first pregnancy but then gained (and continued to gain) after second pregnancy. I would really like to have surgery again, but have no idea if surgeons or caresource will cover. My BMI is now 40. Any suggestions cincinnati, ohio
Berry78 4,261 Posted November 13, 2017 Usually a bypass is "one and done". You could have your pouch evaluated to see if it or your anamosis has stretched out. If there is a problem, insurance might be willing to pay for something. If everything is fine, then insurance may not cover anything (you'd need to call to find out their policies). If interested in self-pay, I do know Dr. Illan worked on a bypass revision patient (in Mexico) while I was there. I don't know her pouch's condition, just that she was getting a revision due to regain.
AZLoser 103 Posted November 24, 2017 Bypass revision is not common. Your anatomy hasn't changed so there's likely no need to redo it. Are you tracking everything you eat with a tracker and being accountable to yourself? We can eat our way around any surgery. Start by going back to basics. Water, Protein, lay off carbs for a while. What do you eat in a typical day? We could help if you wanted to share. 1 dreamingsmall reacted to this
Mhy12784 423 Posted November 25, 2017 Not commonly done but one of the only things ive seen performed a few times at my hospital was a lap band over a bypass. Would depend on your insurance and how your surgeon feels about that. But getting a lap band over a bypass is a realistic possibility. I mean surgeons dont like to do lap bands because they frequently have issues and you need to be on top of appointments with them. But if weight and cormorbidities are a problem its one of the safer options. Sure bands arent the greatest, but I think getting a revised bypass is much more dangerous. And the band does work in a synergy kind of way with the bypass. Couldnt tell you how outcomes are long term though I would absolutely avoid any kind of self pay scenarios since you have a history of a bypass . If you have any complications from the bypass (which is a real possibility) you dont want insurance companies using your self pay surgery as an excuse to get out of paying for it. dreamingsmall 1,125 Posted November 28, 2017 How about take responsibility that perhaps it wasn't just the pregnancy but also what you ate contributed? And try to figure a way to get back on track. Pure Protein and veggies. You have children to think about going in for another surgery after a bypass just because you've gained weight isn't ideal. Seek counselling. You may not like my reply but I'm not judging you but why put yourself through a whole nother surgery when all you have to do is go back to basics and use the tool you have. Be honest. What are you eating daily. Free advice here many people who are super far out who can help you with your diet.
