Non refrigerated snacks

Recommended Posts

We’re leaving next Tuesday for Disney World and I won’t have access to a refrigerator while we are in the parks. Any suggestions for high Protein Snacks that don’t require refrigeration? I’ll be transitioning to a regular diet the day before we leave, but I’m not sure what to take. I’ll end up picking off my kids plates for meals, but there won’t really be any healthy snack options in the parks.

I'm a HUGE Disney World fanatic/traveler, and I've been thinking about this, even though I won't be going again until next year haha. Few ideas off the top of my head:

  • Natural peanut butter (can grab a banana as a snack at the parks to have with it). See about finding a good healthy option in those individual serving containers, or pre-pack servings into small tupperwares. You can also get powdered peanut butter - get a skim milk and add some to it, shake it up, and voila - a semi-protein shake :)
  • Tuna packets (just grab a fork/spoon from quick serve restaurants)
  • Unsweetened oatmeal packets (be creative with how you want to add flavor - I'm a fan of sugar free maple syrup). You can get a cup of hot Water around the park to 'cook' it a bit. Not ideal, but it's an option. Bring stevia packets or the like for an easy way to sweeten it up. Or add banana or other fruit from a snack credit.
  • Protein powder packets. Not ideal but may be your best option to have a handful on you just in case. Bring a shaker bottle with you to the parks if you bring these, just to make sure they mix up well.

Jerky is one of my favorites, but salty. I also eat Almonds. I try to stay away from Protein Bars, but keep one around for an emergency. Have fun!

I just talked about this with my PA today she suggested Quest Protein bars but cut them up in squares and keep them in a baggy so you can be aware of how much you eat

Missed this, but hope you had a great trip! I love Disney and have done it often. One of my favorite places.

Hope you had a successful fun trip! I eat Quest bars, lower calories Atkins snack bars, 80 cal pistachio bags, 120 cal high Fiber Protein pretzels ( wonderslim) and Perky Turkey Jerky ( target, Walmart) they are super soft and tasty. Lower in salt and healthier than leading jerky. I look forward to these Snacks even when I’m home. Measured out and easily put in my app.

We had a great time, though I was wiped out when we came back. Ended up in the ER the day after we returned because I was dehydrated and my potassium was super low. Feeling a bit better now, but struggling with food. I’m on the maintenance diet now, but nothing really sits well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
