What's your favorite pre-op protein? I HATE sucralose

Recommended Posts

I really dislike Sucralose ( Splenda.)

To the point that it makes me gag. My surgeon doesn't care WHICH I choose, as long as I get 60-70G of Protein and 800 Calories per day. I can't do that on Unjury unflavored powder.

I have tried Slim fast, Premier, Optifast, Muscle milk.

I am ready to CRY, how am I going to do this for THREE weeks?? Two pre-op and one post.

Any suggestions?

I really like the Syntrax Nectar chocolate Truffle and I am really picky about taste.

A friend bought me a container of the syntha-6 whey Protein Powder (strawberry milkshake flavor). I mix it with 1% milk and I love it. Have you tried a powder instead of already made shakes?

Maybe Isopure (the zero carb or low carb varieties)? It does list sucralose as an ingredient but I don't find them overly sweet so there likely isn't much. Also, I HATED splenda before surgery and it made me very sick. But, after surgery I have found that I can tolerate it with no problems and don't mind the taste in some things. So after surgery you might try some things again that you didn't like before and it might open up more options.

Have you tried GNC lean 25 shakes? I like them better than anything.

I drink Premier Protein chocolate everyday & love it. I’m 4 weeks post op & it’s very flavorful without a bad aftertaste.

Prior to surgery, I loved the Premier Protein “Banana Creme” the best & “Caramel” was good too. After surgery these two flavors are just way too sweet for me, but I still love the chocolate. They have 30 grams of protein too!! :)

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am going to spend the weekend securing samples of what I can and having a tasting party.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
