Tennessee Lap Banders

Recommended Posts

We lived in Brentwood outside of Nashville for three years. Of course that was 18 years ago. We used to love it there. We also loved the Smokies. Can you believe we met through a backpacking club. Of course that was 115 pounds ago:) Tennesse has some beautiful areas. The flat lands of western Tennesse just aren't very good for hiking. I guess we could walk the levees of the rice fields.:scared2: Anyway, I am very grateful for all of you. It puts a supportive and fun twist to this.

hello everybody,

well, my 2nd appt was wednesday, 26th...i got to meet the surgeon, Dr. Hodge. the only reason he met with me was to tell me i have a gallstone and have to have my gallbladder removed...i really did not want to hear that...he gave me the choice of doing it before or during the banding...i chose to do it separately just to minimze the risk for infection. so i have to do EGD may 2nd and gallbladder may 16th....now i have another problem...i just got a summons for jury duty!!!!!! i am freaking out a little cause i am worried that they won't excuse me and it will interfere with my surgical procedures or my support group meetings...not to mention all the time i am already going to have to miss from work...my insurance requires these support meetings and weigh ins for 6 months before i can be approved....i sent an email to the jury people about all of the circumstances but have heard nothing back yet....freakin out a little bit...thanks for letting me vent, nay

Sorry to hear about your setbacks. Do you have to do the six month wait? If so, at least it won't postpone your surgery. What did you think of Hodge? I am thinking of switching from Watson to Hodge.

woohoo!!! they excused me from jury duty!!! i was so afraid it would make me miss my meetings or appts, causing the insurance co. to make me wiat even longer than the 6 mo, wait...

hi leosmom,

i loved Dr. Hodge...he was very pleasant and attentive....he is doing my EGD 5/2 and the choley 5/16....i do have the 6 mo.wait and list of requirements to follow thru with so they will allow the surgery...do you have the 6 mo. wait? if u do , you could start your appts maybe get your meetings started or what ever they want you to do during the waiting period....later, nay

:blush:Wouldn't it be wonderful IF there were a magic wand that we could wave, and SUDDENLY the extra pounds would melt away and we would be the perfect weight ? Unfortunately.... there are NO magic wands, and the only way we can lose weight is to set ourselves to the task--body, mind, and spirit... We need to remain committed to our weight loss task and to each other-- No matter how long it takes... Anybody out there with me ???

Oh, Plum, you are bursting my bubble. I just knew the special prize in the bottom of the Cracker Jacks box would take care of that.;) Have you been having some good days. You sound very determined. I decided to bite the bullet and go in for another fill next week. At least my fill last week helped some.

Hi, Plum. I wasthinking yesterday I haven't seen you around for a while. How is the end of school coming? It gets so hectic at my daughter's school. PTO is expected to help or at least make an appearance at everything. My dh's job was eliminated last week. Things are a bit stressed here. He got 3 months severence pay so that helps a lot. I really don't want to move. The older I get the harder it gets. I better lose weight fast so I will be able to get it done. Maybe a job will fall from the sky and we will get to stay. Actually you could say that is what happened last time. I'm not holding my breath though.

I hope you are doing well. How has your eating and weight loss been? How many fills have you had? I hope you will make it to the next support group. I'm sure it won't be as entertaining as the last one.:biggrin2: Take care.

Tina

Hi, I'm from Knoxville, TN and I am using Dr. Colquitt in Maryville @ Blount Memorial. That wasn't by choice, but my insurance requires me to use a center of excellance so he is who I got stuck with. He does seem very nice, not great bedside, but he seems to really know his stuff. He is just not who I choose to use. I was planning on using Tenn weight loss center out of UT Hospital. My insurance plan changed right after my first apt with them so I had to change docs then. Well nice to meet everyone!

Hi, Ashlee. Glad to have you. Picking a surgeon is always a little tricky. I'm in Memphis and had Dr. George Woodman as a self pay. He always tries very hard but has little patience for anything he considers nonsense. However he is an excellent surgeon even if he can't understand my joking around. I really thinks he cares about people. As it turns out the nurse practitioner does the fills and she, as well as all the staff, is very nice. Good luck. I hope all your experiences are encouraging.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
