How long after your appointment with the surgeon and you get a date for surgery did it take before the actual surgery?

Recommended Posts

there are a lot of factors for a time frame for surgery. if you are self pay i would say no delay or not much of one but it really just depends on your insurance and their requirements from start to finish for me was 9 months

you have to see nutritionist

you have to demonstrate that u can lose weight

u have to see a physoclogist

etc

My follow up appointment with my surgeon with all pre-surgery requirements completed was September 26th and my surgery is scheduled for November 16th. Everything was submitted to insurance on October 6th and was approved Ooctober 26th. I have BCBS of Illinois. Hope that helps!

I also want to add my first appointment with my surgeon was August 8th. I really rushed and had all of my testing completed in about 1 month. My program requires 3 months of nutrition classes.

Every program is different. I had to go to new patient orientation, complete psych eval, attend one support group meeting then the surgeons office submitted to insurance for approval. That process, for me, took 2 weeks. Insurance approved in 10 days. Sugery scheduler called me 2 weeks later to schedule surgery. I have 1:1 with surgeon 11/13 and preop tests and labs 11/12. Surgery is scheduled for 12/7. Started the process on 9/12/17. It has been fairly quick for me, but everyone is different.

My experience (one of many): 180 days from first dietitian class, surgeon's office will submit paperwork for insurance approval. Four months in (seminar mid-August), I have a surgery date in March 2018 and followup appointment scheduled throughout the year. My surgeon schedules 3 appointments through the process -- at my second appointment, I had finished my "homework".

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
