Surgery day is quickly approaching. I had my final meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday this week, so now it's a slow march to the actual day of. I find myself getting more and more nervous as it gets closer, which I'm sure is normal. I find myself second-guessing the decision, too. Did anyone else go through that? I know that's probably a silly question. The way I look at it is, if I don't do it, then my weight is going to continue to get higher and the pain I already have in my feet, hips, and back is going to get worse and will more likely become permanent. My aunt is 60 years old, probably around 350 lbs, and she is in constant pain from her weight and has trouble moving around. I am built just like her, so I see my future in her. I am only 34, I am young enough that I will bounce back quickly and some of the joint damage I have done may be reversed. Still, it's a life-changing decision and it's starting to rattle me as it's getting closer. Anyone else feel this?

One of the reasons why I had surgery was because of my mom. Her overweight led to diabetes and it took a terrible toll on her life. I was following in her footsteps. I became obese, developed high blood pressure and diabetes. I had surgery over 4 years ago and it corrected these problems along with others. So I am very pleased. I am 69 years old or maybe I should say 69 years young.

I’m in the same boat as you right now. My surgery is in 24 days and I’m starting to get nervous, surprisingly not about the surgery itself but the life changes after surgery. I haven’t second guessed myself yet but I do worry about emotions and life changes afterwards. I’ve just been telling myself that I’ve had the past 33 years to eat whatever I wanted and basically start to destroy my body from the inside out that now is the time I take care of my body and be healthy enough to try to be around for another 50+ years. I know what we’re feeling is normal so I’m just taking each day at a time and confronting my feelings and fears as they come. I’m also looking forward to all the things I will be able to do with the weight gone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
