Banded on Friday the 7th

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

Thought I would give an update as a sit in the LA airport for another 6 hours!!! Our flight got bumped and now we are sitting in El Cholo Cantina and my hubby is still eating mexican food believe it or not! I may have messed up on my liquid phase (a little)... I had strained tortilla Soup that was a little spicy and very tomato-y... I think that Dr. Ortiz said guidelines are meant to be broken occasionally but I don't think he meant day 3! My incisions are getting a little sore from sitting here, but besides that I feel great! No gas pains in the shoulders, however I keep feeling like I need to hiccup but it is getting caught inside and causing my stomach to lurch. That is the only way I can describe it! Anyway... If anyone has helpful hints on how to get through this liquid stage I would love to hear them! I am having the worst case of variety deprivation! I feel like I couldn't possibly do anymore chicken broth! And with 5 more days of liquids to go I need something else!

Hello to Crystal and Lisa and Dana...hope you guys are doing well! It was great to meet you!

Thats it for now!

Becca:D

Hi Becca,

I know every plan is different and if your doctor gave you details, that would be best to follow.

I had my surgery at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. I'm on day 12 and also in the liquid phase, well full liquids which I was able to start the day after surgery. I've been able to have broth, creamed Soups that are strained, unsweetened apple sauce, sugar free Jello and sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, cream of wheat or rice with lots of skim milk.

Congrats on your successful banding! Airport layovers are the pits, especially 3 days after surgery. YIKES! That wretching/lurching thing you describe is usually one of your bands first signs of what we call a 'soft stop'. It is one of your bands signals that it is 'full'. Learn to listen to this first signal and you won't have to get acquainted with the ones that follow.. lol, ie, pain, tightness, possible productive burping/vomiting. :D Hope you get home soon! Take care and let us know how you are getting along!

My doctor told me anything that would go through a straw I could have, it's amazing what you can get through a straw those first two weeks. Good luck and congratulations on your new journey.

Hang in there SunshineGirl. You're almost home and will soon be on puree. This is my 17th day of liquids so I can definitely relate to the boredom. However, we're gonna make it!!!

Hi Becca,

It's good to hear you are feeling good. You will feel better everyday so hang in there. As far as your hunger, try warm Jello it seemed to be more filling than broth and I didn't get the gas pressure from it.

Take care,

Lisa

Sunshine Girl,

I can so relate to your airport fiasco. I left San Diego airport the day after my lap bad was placed (after 3 flight bumps due to fog) I finally got on a flight only because I held my shirt up for the ticket agents and showed my sugery cuts! I was desperate!! Then flew into New Mexico with a five hour layover. I to sucked on some Soup broth at the airport while my hubby pigged out. Then finally twelve hours later I was home in sunny Florida. Holy _____ what a trip!

Becca..lookls like by the sounds of it Dr. Ortiz has changed his post op diet guidlines if you get to move from liquids after 8 days because in April 2004 when I had surgery I was on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and 1 week of full liquids..so consider yourself lucky :D

Some great things that helped me were popsicles and Jello, they both felt like food but were both Clear Liquids. Hang in there it will be over before you know it and so worth it, but do try your best to stick with his instructions , there is a reason they are there. I remember the feeling of wanting to burp but couldnt, that my friend is from the swelling and the trapped gas in your diaphram, as the swelling goes down you will be able to burp...Good Luck :P

Becca,

I got the very same hiccups that you describe! It comes from below the band and bounces around and just can't get out. OUCH! It had nothing to do with anything I ate -- I was on clear liquids. Mine came and went for a few days and then they could get out. Whew! Hang in there!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
