I had my surgery on Dec 20. Tips for days leading up: prepping helped me - getting things ready for after surgery.. I even bought new pjs for after surgery and slippers. Day of: I brought headphones and music to calm me down and that helped me a lot .. right after surgery - walking as soon as I could and often.. finding right med options for me.. they had orders for different type of meds so I could try different ones and use what actually helped.. they gave me Percocet and that was awful but tordahl worked great.. advocate for yourself.. walking ... slow sips and focusing on the fact that each day will get easier and now I am five days out and what’s helping is variety of liquids and walking every hour and thinking about what it will be like once I am feeling better and through this stage.. and biggest thing that helped was asking my caregiver a head of time for the type of support I needed- tracking and timing of liquids for a week and no I told you so or non positive responses if I express upset or doubt.. plus my period started day of surgery and so I definitely needed care and pampering ... pillows and a heating pad helped!! Good luck and you got this!!!

Know my doctor said if I had any type fever, would be a no go. Am guessing with sinus infection you probably have a slight fever?

I had a sinus infection and had to reschedule my surgery bc my surgeon was concerned about risk of pneumonia post op.

Getting an anxiety medicine in the pre op area helped me relax. I was super nervous too! Talk to your nurses and medical team. They can help calm you down. They talked me through everything.
Bring several of your own pillows and a heating pad. The hospital bed is uncomfortable and my pillows helped me get more comfortable. The heating pad felt good on my back where most of the gas pain was. The gas pain was the worst part for me. Walk walk walk! It helps move the gas so you can get rid of it. I woke up with extreme dry mouth. Ice chips helped with that.
I liked ice chips, Water, and popsicles post op.
Bring loose stretchy clothes to go home in.
Be prepared to be sleepy for a couple of days. It takes a while to feel semi normal. Post op day 3 has been the best for me. I’ve been more awake, feel stronger, and able to eat more full liquids. I think knowing what to expect helps. Expect to tire more easily than usual for a while so lower your expectations as to what you usually do for your kids. I have 3 young children and it’s frustrating that I can’t go at my normal pace. Get as much done as you can before you have surgery, like laundry, cleaning, meal prep for your family, grocery shopping, and getting all of your post op liquids. My husband had been great at picking up the slack so let people help you. If you feel discouraged, reach out. People on here can relate and can encourage you. Good luck! It hasn’t been as bad as I had imagined.

Thanks! Yeah I'm due for the dreaded monthly visit from Aunt Flo the beginning of next month, thanks for the heating pad tip, I haven't heard that before! ☺

Thanks! I will definitely be asking for anxiety meds lol. My husband will help me with whatever I need but I will be asking for help from my 14 and 10 year old daughters for help with my 3 year old son which they are good about helping with any way when they aren't all fighting with each other lol.

I am going to check my temperature today .. have to buy a thermometer and the stores were all closed yesterday. I don't think I have a fever but it could be low grade. I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow and get an evaluation. I am supposed to travel for the surgery so it's important to figure it out asap.

I'm two days away. Definitely getting nervous. Definitely have NOT gotten my physical space (bedroom) ready for post surgery. (Yes, I'm terribly messy and a procrastinator. All my clothes are everywhere!)

I am in good shape as far as food (puree options) and meds (etc.) post surgery. Tonight and tomorrow I'm busting butt to make my room enough of a nest that I can relax comfortably for a few days.

I'm getting a little bit nervous, but not tons. My only pre-op diet is tomorrow, which is good and bad. But any way I look at it, I'm all in!

I’m two days away, too! Clear liquid diet for me! No fun!

3 days away here! My liquid diet it's brutal too. Slowly but surely getting my house put together. Thank God, my mom is coming to take care of me.

Two for me. Once I got used to the Protein Shakes, I have to start on clear liquids! Ugh! I’m dying down here. I picked up a Isopure clear Protein Drink at GNC. It’s so gross, but it has Protein. Maybe I’ll get another one. My tummy is growling. 😫 I’m at my mom’s house, so she can take care of me, too!

Hi all December surgery buddies. I am scheduled for December 5th. I seem to be older than most on these sites. I'm 63 and excited but anxious too. Looking for buddies to follow my journey with. Hoping everyone has a easy and successful surgery.

Try Muscle Milk powder, they have numerous flavor and two scoops equals to 32g of Protein. I was on Isopure but the taste was horrible.

How long after surgery did you return to work? do you have a sedentary job ? did you have pain while working? I read online, how some people are going back 2-4 weeks after the surgery. I'm trying to get an idea how much discomfort I will be when I do go back.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
