December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

Recommended Posts

Absolutely everything is done. All my pre-op tests. Blood typing. Pre-op visit with anesthesia. Instructions given for showering with hibiclens and sleeping in clean sheets the night before. All. Done.

Now I have 8 days until my clear liquid pre-op day, and 9 days until surgery. A week and a half to just get nervous and stress. :o

Yay! So nice to see some fellow December gastric bypass people! I am excited but really, really nervous. I also have a pretty extreme pre-op diet from my surgeon-based on my BMI, I have 4 weeks of Protein Shakes and raw vegetables! So I start that Tuesday.

I am new here too, but it looks like there's like a "follow thread" button at the top. I think if you post on the thread, you have automatically "followed" it as well, and will be notified of new posts. Hope that helps!

I had my gastric bypass surgery dec 15th just got home yesterday I am surviving the liquid diet pretty well it’s very nice to have others inputs

Was it planned that you'd be in the hospital that long? Or did you travel for surgery? Hopefully you didn't have any complications!

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on the 21st and I came home last night. I was actually afraid to come home. I have heard of so many people having issues with coming home and then having to go back in to the hospital. So far so good. I am able to get in all my fluids, consume liquids, and take my Vitamins. I am so grateful!

That’s great! I have been home for a day too and taking it slow and trying to follow all the instructions... so far it’s okay.. glad your doing well... I’m trying to hold that each experience is different and unique.. helps me just focus on my body and what it’s trying to tell me

I had sleeve surgery on the 18th, too. So far so good. No nausea, doing ok with the pain. It does look like I'm bruising on 2 of the incision sites... Not as bad as where they did my IV, though! And I'm starting to get some acid reflux (I guess?) It's not that icky acidic bile - just a little harder when I swallow, ya know? So just trying to stay upright, walk, and drink slowly...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
