Soft solid introduction

Recommended Posts

Is it normal when introducing soft solids for the cramping/pain in my tummy? It kind if hurts like gas. Does it mean to slow down? stop? wait a few days and try again? THOUGHTS PLEASE

Try to take atleast 3 to 5 minutes between bites. And chew it to as liquid a constancy as you can. To the point you can suck it through a straw. Try to only incorporate one soft solid at a time. Like have mostly pureed and one soft solid meal. It's a slow process for sure and it is very uncomfortable in the beginning. Even Water hurt like hell but it gets better. Are they spasms that happen like right under your chest bone around the upper/ middle of your torso? If so thats what i had. You're still really swollen and tight right now. I find drinking a hot cup of tea helps relax things so they aren't so tight. Its still rough 13 months out but WAY better than the first couple months. Still call your surgeon just to be sure it isn't a stricture, but if the food is staying down without nausea i wouldn't worry TOO much (not a doctor just speaking from my own experience). How long does the cramping last? Is it soon after a bite, lasts a few seconds and then passes? If so that sounds like what i go through. I take REALLY small bites, breaks in between of atleast 2 to 3 minutes depending on how far in the meal i am. I take longer pauses between bites if im more than halfway done so i can better judge when I'm satisfied/ full. Just take your time. You may have to go back to mostly puree for a bit to give your tummy more time to adjust. I didn't start soft foods till a month out and could barely get halfway through a soft scrambled egg. Egg drop Soup was my friend. Stay strong and keep your surgical team in the loop. They may be able to adjust things to better suit your needs.

Thank you@Torriluv87! The cramp happens when the food hits my tummy. Lasts for 5-10 seconds and then gone until the next bite. I have been eating slow. So far the "food" I have had is: hummus, scrambled egg and pureed chicken breast thinned with Pickle Juice (craving). My bites are very smallIMG_8179.JPG

Sometimes a sleeved tummy may react differently on certain foods, especially early post surgery. I have similar issues with fish - no matter how smooth or pureed it is. Should go away eventually. If you have pains with one type of food, find a different one which is less stressing. Just run experiments and you'll learn what YOUR tummy can tolerate.

I would play around a little with what foods your eating because it could be an intolerance issue. Since my sleeve I can't eat eggs anymore, unless it's straight egg whites, without discomfort and cramping. I'm 10.5 months out and I still have issues with eggs so I stay away from them. Also chicken is a big issue for a lot of people so it could be that as well. Keep trying and if it's uncomfortable back down to pureed for a few days and then try again.

Thank you and great advice. I took it and scaled back so I can figure out which is the culprit. I do fine with chicken and hummus, its the eggs. My new arch nemesis! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] Looks like I will be egg free fir a while. I will try to reintroduce eggs in a couple of months.

I'm glad you were able to figure out what the culprit was. eggs are a big one for many people so no shocker there. Trying them again later is a good option. It may be something you over come or not. Still can't eat egg with yolk

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
