64oz A Day, Really?????

Recommended Posts

Update: ok so I drank my 11oz of Premier Protein Carmel and it was goooooood. BUT!!! It took me roughly from 1pm till almost 8pm to do it. On week too where I get mashed potatoes, oatmeal, cream of wheat, yogurt and pudding.

I did the math so bare with me. I have averaged getting up around 10-11am since hubby has been home all week. If I’m up at 11am, I have to drink FOUR oz of Water per hour which means, 11am sip, sip, sip. 11:15 am, sip, sip, sip. 11:30am sip, sip, sip. You see where km going with this. I’d have to stay up till about 3am to get in the 64oz they want us to get in????? Even if I get up at 8am, I’d be up till about 1am. HOW IS THIS RIGHT? And I’ve thrown popsicles in which are only 1.5oz each.

My stomach has barely been able to hold 40oz and for that I seriously have to push it in,almost to the point of getting sick. I know they don’t want us to be dehydrated, which I’m not. Urine looks great, still no BM, but all I’ve had is water and we started adding the Mirolax to it today. But come on, 64oz of liquid? ????? [emoji24] [emoji24]

It's not a joke. Dehydration will land you in the hospital way before starvation will. And no need to take breaks (except to eat and wait 30min) from the sip sip sip, just keep sip sip sip all day. Carry that bottle with you, and before you know it, you'll get it down.

I'm 7.5 months out at this point and get about 80-100oz of Water most days, and then there is the Protein Shakes and warm tea, coffee on top of that. You'll be able to take larger sips soon. You drink up until you eat and then wait 30min after you are done, and then you keep drinking.

Yeah I’ll be working on oatmeal and mashed potatoes tomorrow. I switched my bottle I was using to a two ounce little glass but it’s still hard. I’m just SOOOOOO OVER water right now and it sucks, because I love water.

I drink cold tea mostly. Water is too hard on my stomach. It's tea made from tea bags, meant for cold water. No sugar or anything. It's common for people to experience water to be too hard. If water is giving you problems, try something sugar free, water it out, but it will give you a little taste and it might help you get more fluids down.

I recommend holding off on solids until you get your fluids up. Because there is no waiting to drink with full or Clear Liquids, so you have every minute that you are awake in which to drink.

Once you start eating, then you lose chunks of time where you can't drink.

My nut says no need to space water/liquids and your Liquid Protein out. So no waiting 30minutes pre and post meals since it is all liquids. But when you start any kind of solids then the spacing has to happen.

I think @Berry78's plan sounds solid if it was me. There's no rush to advance the diet and we all heal differently at different rates.

((hugs)) and hang in there. It's supposed to improve daily!

Many individuals find it difficult to meet their Protein and Fluid daily requirement during the first two weeks after surgery. You stomach is in a major heal mode. Just keep trying to work towards that goal each day and you should be able to get there.

I don't differniate between shakes, pureed cottage cheese, and liquids at 2 weeks out because I can't consume any great quantity of any one of those to cause over consummuntion. It's just a bottle of anything glued to my hand every minute. It is still hard work. I can swallow slightly bigger sips, but that's it.....lol I assume in time it will improve.

Sip sip sip all day long. It's a full time job. Heaven forbid you take a nap or get busy and forget for an hour or two because you just threw off the whole days schedule! That's where I struggle the most too. Getting enough liquids in throughout the day between waking up and going back to sleep. I noticed now that I can actually drink a little more than previously. Instead of 2 Oz's every 10 minutes I'm able to drink 2-3 ounces in 5 minutes. It goes through me fast so I'm not worried about it sitting in my stomach stretching it out. It feels like I'm drinking and peeing all day long constantly non stop.

Ha ha ha. Yes. Drinking or in the bathroom. I was not able to walk the 30 minutes a day, still can’t. Just not enough calories yet.

Yes. I’m on my second day for full liquids and all I’ve been able to do is a Boost shake. I think I will be able to get it down much faster today than Monday. The one on Monday took me about seven hours that day. I’d like to make my oatmeal and potatoes today, but need the strength to do it.

Meguone, I hear ya! I mean we would need like 36-40 hours a day to get in the amount of liquids that the docs want us too! And I love the caramel shake too btw :D. But......when said shake give you the steadies with the bathroom, and milk products leave you weary, you and coffee are no longer friends and Water has long since left you feeling blah what does that leave you? I have actually found "Protein2O" It is a 15gram Protein water with no carbs, 3 flavors at Sams and some convenience stores (in my area Caseys). I like both the berry and Coconut. Might give you an option.

Oh cool. Yeah I never have drank coffee so that one I don’t care about. I’ve been drinking in 2oz glasses the FairLife milk because that’s the only thing that taste really good. But I’ll check out our Sams for that Water. What I’ve been finding also is the Vitamin Water Zero is too damn sweet. Even if I cut it with half water, just taste icky.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
