Is there any sleevers out there that don't have a date due to insurance company wanting more information.

Recommended Posts

Good Morning!

I have my date now, set for Nov 21. But it did take some time for me to get my date. The insurance company initally rejected the claim and requested more information about my 3 month diet. My doctor's office ended up having me call my insurance company to get some more clarification why they were not approving the claim and it was resolved pretty quickly after that. It never hurts to call your insurance company to gain some clarification and get the process moving! Best of luck to you!

I think this is common! My Dr. said that my hospital's standard practice is basically to pick an arbitrary date and ask insurance to approve it. They are fully expecting insurance to come back and ask for more info and to lay out 100% what I need to do to be approved. My Dr. said that is how they get insurance to tell them what is needed without playing games. Then we do everything they ask and send it to them again with the real date for approval. Insurance sucks, hang in there!

I got denied 3 times and finally got to peer to peer and they still said more information. My coordinator basically pushed and pushed to get a clear answer on what information was needed since I had more than enough information provided. My coordinator submitted a 6 month nutrition program ( with psych eval , blood work all the stuff etc) that my surgeon required to the insurance that only needed a 3 month diet etc. Finally after having my date pushed back the insurance company seemed to just pick a random reason and said I needed to show 3 months of exercise as well. That guideline was nowhere to be seen or relayed to us in anyway. I had even called the insurance company at the beginning of my journey and no one said anything about a 3 month exercise journal. So I whipped one up real quick ( lies!?) and sent it over and finally I am approved for Dec 4th. I started my journey in January with my info meeting and first visit with surgeon... It's been a long year of jumping through hoops.

I would recommend an exercise journal just in case then. It was a really bizarre request. I downloaded a cute monthly exercise calendar off of pinterest filled it in with things like exercise video names, walking 2 miles, rest days( those are important) cycling etc. I mean I do , do all those things I just never wrote it down. Or if you have a fit bit maybe download your activity. I only had an old heart rate monitor watch that I used for calories burned that I couldn't download.

Ugh I had a fitbit long ago but it broke and I have just recently been thinking about replacing it! I walk about 1.5-2 miles 5 days a week. I have a circuit training DVD I also do whenever I can. I meet with the dietitian on the 27th. I'll see what she has and recommends for tracking.

I made a simple spreadsheet and insurance accepted it. I also had a fitbit, so it was easier to compile the spreadsheet. My policy stated up front that it was required.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
