Had my procedure Friday Nov 3

Recommended Posts

The procedure went well but my recovery was awful. Vomiting every couple of hours the first 24 hours and then every 5 to 6 hours the next 24. Some severe cramping so hard to get comfortable and rest. No vomiting since I woke up today - hopefully the worst is over. My procedure was done at John Hopkins.

My surgery was 9 days before yours and my recovery was pretty rough as well. I didn't vomit because I had nothing to vomit, but I dry heaved more times than I ever thought I could. Nausea was a huge struggle and then it just seemed to go away on it's own. I can absolutely say that I have felt better with each passing day. Take time to rest :)

I had a similar recovery Luv Life. I was fine in the hospital but when I came home and off the IV meds I felt like I had the flu. I had two days of dry heaves. I took my Zofran which helped. After those two days I was fine. Hang in there. I know you’ll feel better soon.

And Congrats on the surgery!

Hope you’re feeling better! Did your surgeon’s office have any suggestions?

My procedure was also done on November 3. The procedure also went good and I was the same vomiting, except my vomit as the nurses said was "old blood" my vomit was a dark reddish/brownish color. I was like that for Nov 3rd-Nov 4th I was discharged late Nov 5th.. everything now seems pretty normal I haven't took a pain pill since Nov 4th which I think is great.. only thing I'm having problems with is the amount of intake of liquids.. I just can't seem to reach the expected amount 😩 Any suggestions??

Tomorrow is my first post op appointment. By far today has been my BEST DAY (6th day). I’ve been able to meet my liquid intake and my incisions seem to not hurt much, I was able to clean a little around the house. And I just feel very good overal. One thing I can say is to hang in there each day that passes seems to be getting better. Hope you guys get better soon

Hi there. I’m glad you’re recovery is going well after a rocky start. I hope your weight loss is going well also. I think perhaps that you may have posted in the wrong forum. It looks to me like you had a laparoscopic gastric sleeve not the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. With the endoscopic one there are no incisions and the stomach is not cut it is stitched up from what I understand. The procedure is done using an endoscope through the mouth and it usually outpatient so there is rarely need for a hospital stay. I just wanted to direct you to the right forum. The gastric sleeve forum people can give you much better advice and support although the procedures are similar I guess ( I’m still trying to decide if I should do this procedure or not). In any case, I wish you continued health and success!

I just wanted to give an update. It's been a week and I'm down 16 pounds. I finally got over the vomiting on day 3. I'm still not able to do more than 2 small meals a day and have yet to get all my Water in. But overall I feel good and am glad the worst is behind me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
