Drinking During Meals

Recommended Posts

Sebsternooni, you are not supposed to drink during meals, that is true. The problem is that it is a hard habit to break. I was just wondering if anybody else was having the same difficulty as me. The tip about having a glass of ice and only sipping the amount that melts is a good one.

I TOO WAS TOLD NO DRINKING DURING MEALS OR FOR AN HOUR AFTER BUT AS A BIG Water DRINKER I FIND THIS IMPOSSIBLE SO I TAKE JUST A SIP DURING AND CAN USUSALLY MANAGE THE HOUR AFTER OK, I THINK YOU JUST HAVE TO USE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT AND COMMON SENSE AND LOOKING AT THESE THREADS THERE ARE LOTS OF US DRINKING AND ARE OK. I LIKE THE ICE IDEA I WILL GIVE THAT A TRY.

When I'm eating out I ask for a glass of Water, only because I got tired of the 3rd Degree. :-) Nothing to drink, thanks. "Would you like some Water? " No thank you. "Not even water? It's good for you!" Grrr. I understood they were just trying to be nice, but ever since I've just asked for water.

Not drinking it is easy for me. I used to always have a beer with dinner, but I gave up drinking anything with meals before my surgery...as soon as I heard "The Rule".

It bugs me too when I get the third degree at restaurants! Makes me crazy, so I too, sometimes get water JUST so they will leave me alone!

Not drinking during and after is really hard for me. I'm suppose to wait 1-2 HOURS after a meal, but dang it, i'm always SO thirsty! Since my last fill, I am really having a hard time getting much liquid in. I usually cheat and do 45 mins after eating. Shhhhhhhhh... :w00t:

When I go to restaurants, I order a "to-go" Water. I never put the straw in it. That way I have something with me 30 mins later to drink and no one ever looks at me funny.

I only sometimes sip if I need it.. but one thing that has helped me is rinsing my mouth out after the meal. I would crave water!!! and so I just take a small sip.. and rinse... I know people who say that when they stop drinking when they eat.. they lose better... you stay full longer... and feel better.

It is dam hard.. I know it! try the rinse.. see if that helps...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
