Not everyone experiences Hair loss. I didn't. And many people who do experience loss recover their hair after they enter the maintenance phase. So it is a temporary loss.

Since you are at the beginning of this process, I would recommend three things.

1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success.
2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery.
3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.

I was 27 when I was going through the process of getting my surgery done. Although I never got put on the liquid diet pre op, I was on it for 2 weeks post op. My hair did thin out but it wasn't noticeable since my hair was really thick. The only person who did notice it was the guy who styles my hair lol. It has been the same way since August. I just got it cut into a bob last Friday.

My only complaints about the whole thing was having nausea for like 2 and a half months. Weaned myself off the Prilosec last month after an endoscopy I've had.

The nerves about getting the surgery didn't hit me til I was seconds away from passing out on the operating table lol

It does feel like a quick surgery cause one minute, you're in the OR and then the next you're waking up in recovery being asked how much pain you're in and how you're feeling. Just remember, unless you've always had problems with growing it out, hair always grows back.

In my opinion, the surgery is worth it. I feel great and I'm off most of my meds.

You've got this, you'll do great. 🙂

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
