Sleeve post-op diet: Being ahead of the post-op idet

Recommended Posts

Hello! I got my gastric sleeve done on October 17th. I’ve been on full liquids for 4.5 weeks (2 pre-op, 3 post-op). Because I’ve been on this liquid diet for so long since my surgery I cannot stomach the yogurt or Jello that I’m allowed to eat so I’ve mainly been on Protein, Water and Soup.

I’m supposed to start my puréed diet on Monday but I’ve been able to hold down puréed foods now for the last 2-3 days. Last week I started blending up my Soups and I was able to keep that down with no discomfort, nausea or severe dumping. Yesterday I mashed up some avocado with lime and alittle salt and ate about two tablespoons (took me 30-45ish minutes but it got me full).

Today I’m going to work and on my puréed diet I can have eggs and I wanted to make myself some scrambled eggs with skim milk because it’s easy and convenient.

I should be good right? I felt bad even mashing up that avocado cause I was worried about messing up my new stomach but I had no problem and I actually felt really good getting some nutrients into my body

Title is supposed to say “DIET” but it won’t seem to let me change it lol

I puree tuna w my avocado - yum. Just take it really slow to introduce stuff. Some people have texture issues w scrambled eggs, do better w soft boiled smashed up.

eggs are hit and miss. Lots of people have trouble. The first time you try eggs, cook them extra soft, and eat them when you aren't in a hurry to go anywhere. That way if they don't agree with you, you have time to recover. This is a good habit to get into with any new food.

Good luck! (Eggs are wonderful for me).

When I started the pureed diet, I pretty much started out eating what amounted to home made baby food. Pureed pees, mashed potatoes, pureed carrots. I was happy with that after 4 weeks of liquids (2 weeks pre-op/2 weeks post-op). The next week, I tried runny eggs, and never looked back. It was nice to actually chew something. i had eggs every day of my 3rd week post op. I moved up to tuna, oatmeal and grits the same week.

I wasn't that happy again until a week and a half later when I had my first bite of salmon. Graduating is awesome! Take things slow though. You should be almost ready to introduce new things every week now, so enjoy it.

Hi all! Surgery soon. Are there any foods I should make ahead and freeze? So excited to start my journey!

Nice home made broth (slow simmered with plenty of meat) go easy on the seasonings. You can freeze in ice cube trays, and pop them out into a gallon zip lock bag. Then you just heat up what you want.

You can also freeze the meat (strip it off the bones so it's ready to go), and when you get to purees you can just throw a bit in the blender. Since you will only be eating an ounce at a time, maybe freeze the meat into little quantities too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
