Pre-op surgery November 27th I'm nervous. I want so desperately to lose the weight and keep it off this time. I'm doing this by myself and I wish I had someone to exercise with. My goal is I just want to be able to run again. Even at the age of 50. My kids are all grown up. And I just want to do something for me to start my life over20171002_1944071.jpg

It's good you found an online support group, then! :) I just joined as well. My surgery is on December 28, and my husband, mom, and 2 friends know and are being very supportive, but I'm waiting until after the surgery to decide if I want to tell more people, so I definitely want the online support as well.

My biggest concerns right now are the liquid diet (terrified I'll be hungry the whole time), and that I'm supposed to try and lose 1-2 lbs/week before the liquid diet, which I've been trying to do for over a month with almost no success. I'm great at planning out my food for work all day but then I'm starving when I come home and eat too much. My surgeon says not too worry, the liquid diet will be very effective, but I'm nervous about being able to even DO that diet. Ugh.

You are a beautiful lady. Just keep following the plan.

Try just elininating starchy carbs, they make you crave things. Stick to grilled/baked meats and cooked veggies. When I worked, I had to have a 3 o'clock Protein break - a string cheese and an apple, or a handful of almonds, or a couple ounces of tuna salad. And a short brisk walk.

For liquid diet, it's tough but you can do it. Sam's choice Bone Broth and Premier Protein shakes, both at Walmart. I also like Jay Robb Dreamsicle packets. Good luck.

Just post on here when you need to vent or fid a friend.

Why be nervous? I was excited to have a real chance to turn my life around as you should be. I am as excited as I was when I had both knees replaced. No more aches and pains, I can do a swap meet now! Yes, I have lost hundreds of pounds through the years just to put it back on. And now we have this tool that can change our lives if we want to maximize it. With the help of these sites, a good doctor and nutritionist you will be back to running again within the year. But you have to be seriously committed and really want to be a success story, failure is not an option. Yes I got greedy and tried to eat the whole thing but you will only get sick or worse. I look at this opportunity as one last chance to undo my foolish choices in my past. Just think in one year you can reverse that unhealthy body and lifestyle.
Good luck on your journey and best wishes on your success!

My thoughts on a bad day? Never a bad day, only bad moments in a day. You need alternatives to food that you can turn to for emotional fulfillment. Mine is sugar free candy like lifesavers. You may find some help here.

You can do it! I turned 50 in June. It was a good kick in the ass to get things going in the right direction. My kids are still home for a while, 15 and 9. I have time to make an impact on my life and theirs.

Go you for wanting to run! I never want to run unless I'm being chased ;)

I'm 51 and I'm right there with you. My sons are grown, but I want to do things that I haven't been able to do since before the boys were younger. Good luck to you on this wonderful journey!

I'm down 92lbs since May, I was extremely nervous too, but it was the best thing I could have ever done at age 60. You'll feel the same way once the surgery is over. Best of luck to you on this journey we are all in this together the best thing in common is weight loss.

You'll do fine just remain encouraged. I was sleeved June 1st & the ONLY regret I have is not doing it sooner[emoji41] Yes the starting changes are difficult in the beginning but when see the weight melting off you'll be excited! I'm 1 pound away from my goal weight & it's only been 6months do remain encouraged & follow your surgeon's plan. I also watched numerous YouTube vlogs also they're very informational 🙄IMG_20171104_182817_409.thumb.jpg.668ba7551208a488532fe5c1529cbdd4.jpgHW: 247 VSG:6/1/17 CW:186(11/04/17) GW:185🙄

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
