Ugh! I am so upset with myself. I was sticking to my liquids and finally being able to take down a Protein Shake without vomiting but today is my little brothers birthday and we went out to eat. I tried to find something of Soup consistency but found nothing and ended up eating a chicken wing (without the breading of course). But I just feel bad! The effects of my mistake haven’t hit me yet but I wish I wouldn’t have done it. Has anyone slipped up like this, this early on (I’m almost 2 weeks post-op)? I finally was able to get my appetite back which was why I was able to even look at the chicken. But it’s just so hard being around others who can eat solid foods when you can’t!!

Don't worry, a few wings won't affect you at all, if your stomach accepted them well and this won't be your daily diet. Just keep in mind that this kind of nutrition doesn't move your closer to your goal :)

This early in the healing phase, you should contact your team. Everything is probably just fine, physically, but you should hear what they have to say about it.

In the future, make a plan. If you don't have access to something that is on plan, you can always just sip on a drink.

Eating out won't feel "normal" for most of the first year. But this is the time to get into new habits.

Everything will probably be fine, but I would use this as a learning lesson to always pre-plan. Look at the online menus of the foods that are served, and see if there is anything that you can eat. If not, take something. I have been known to throw a Premier Protein shake in the freezer, and take it along when the family wants to go out to eat at places like Wingstop or a Barbecue place. I have even take a chopped salad to a burger place, and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich without the bread, and ate it up with my salad.

Again, the past is the past. Don't beat yourself up about it. All you can change is your present and future.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
